A couple glasses of wine!

By
Real Estate Agent with Remax Estates Properties DRE #0892215

I started reading the Book if you only had 30 days to live. For just one moment in this busy, overworked real estate market stop and take a breather. Ask Yourself, if I had only 30 days to live what would I want to do.

For me it was spending time with family, writing my book on God's Miracles and enjoying every moment to the fullest. I know I would not be worrying about my Bank Of America screw up on my credit, paying bills or dealing with difficult clients and agents.  Life is too short to sweat the small stuff..What would you do for your last 30 days??

I love this article I recieved via unkown email:

"A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and
empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it
was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas
between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else He asked once more if the
jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table
and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty
space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the
important things; your family, your children, your health, your
friends, and your favorite passions; things that if everything else was lost and
only they remained, your life would still be full.'
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house,
and your car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff.
If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'There is no
room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out
to dinner. Play another 18. Do one more run down the ski slope. There
will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of
the golf balls first; the things that really matter.

Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine
represented. The professor smiled. I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show yo u
that no matter how full your life may seem, there' s always room for a couple
of glasses of wine with a friend.

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hoursin a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses of wine."

Mary~ Very inspirational and OH! so true!  It is funny how it is so hard for some to figure out what really is important in the scheme of things called life!

What a wonderful reminder.  I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off today and "could not" take my husband's call.  After reading this, I called him and apologized for being too busy.  He was just calling to say he loved me.  How lucky are those of us with "golf balls" in our lives?  Thank you for reminding me and giving me a moment of happiness in my crazy world!

I never get tired of seeing this lecture! I am a recovering WORKaholic.  I have to remember to take at least one day off per week to spend time with my honey. In the past, I spent too many stressful weeks where each day I worried about something I needed to get done, or an appraisal that was being done.  At the end of the week (was there an end?), I was exhausted and cranky with the people I love. Being ON means being rested and fully engaged. Taking the time for yourself is just good for your business and your soul.

Growing up, my mother was a work-a-holic.  I kept trying to tell her the house didn't need to be cleaned top to bottom 7 days a week, to take time for other things, like living.  It took her years to get the message.  I think I'll share this story with her anyway.  Even though she is retirement age, and supposedly retired, she still has trouble stopping.  It's always go-go-go with her.  I remember when I was a teenager, she hopped out of bed one morning and broke her ankle.  I had tried to tell her it was going to happen one day...and it did.  Did she learn a lesson?  No way.

Life is way to important to be totally consumed in the pesky little things that just consume our life.  To follow the analogy, we all need to play golf...that's what golf balls are for, right?

Great story, Mary. I had seen this about a year ago.

I am taking care of my "golf balls" right now! I have my two grandsons, 8 & 7, here with us for the whole month of June! We are having a BLAST, in spite of real estate. LOL

Happy Father's Day to all that are Father's! God Bless too.
