Integrity: Your Price of Admission

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

So many times, when we ask an real estate agent or broker, "what differentiates you from others?", the inevitable reply is Integrity.  And we get the same answer from many professionals in various fields.  On the Q & A section on Active Rain, the most frequently asked question is: "Which fiduciary responsibility is most important and why?"

And we say, "Integrity is just the price of admission in the highly competitive landscape of all businesses." Those who have achieved market leadership in their area simply could not survive at the top f integrity were not a fundamental building block of a highly successful practice.

The urge to be less than forthright, up-front, straightforward and frank with ones clients comes from a scarcity mentality. That is, the idea that there are not enough clients and, therefore, not enough business to meet ones income goals. This is small thinking!

At the core of this scarcity mentality and small thinking is simply a small contact database of potential referral sources. Believing that there is not enough business causes people do things they would not do if there was plenty of business.

Here are several suggestions to expand your data base:

Extrovert! Get out of your office and meet more people. Build a huge database of potential referral sources. Get over your shyness. The most successful professions have figured out a way to overcome their shyness.

Delegate! It becomes easy to hide behind the excuse that you do not have enough time in a day to accomplish what you want and still have a life.

Delegate everything you can possible think of to an assistant or virtual assistant and free up more time to meet more people.

Build a huge contact database. Just about everyone is shy and lazy when it comes to meeting new people. Successful people overcome this obstacle to success.

Expand!  Exponentially expand the boundaries of your marketplace.

Stay In Touch!  Keep in touch with your expanded database of contacts.

Integrity is a word I'm very thankful for! I can still hear my parents saying, your integrity and honor means everything!  And as kids we'd say Yes Mom or Dad and roll our eyes! We got it!  It truly means everything. Knowing people can trust us and count on us is a big deal. And it goes both ways, that 's the beauty of it all.  Wonderful post Ron and Alexandra Seigel

Anna,

It is a wonderful word, and even more wonderful that your parents taught it to you at a young age.  I always go out of my way when someone has honor to praise and thank them...and when I know that their handshake is their word of honor...these are treasured people, one of our clients titled us as the family broker would have our check ready to hand us as he would sign the lease for a tenant we had brought...Thank you for your comment and kind words.  A

Interestingly, I had this conversation with a friend just this morning.  Integrity and honesty are the two most valuable qualities we look for in personal and business relationships, as well as in political leaders of the free world!

Hi Ron and Alexandra- at the core of every successful salesperson is the ability to meet and connect with others. No matter how versed they are in contracts and laws, without a personal connection, they are just technicians. So if you want to build your brand, get out and connect with others and make sure you can back everything up with a healthy dose of integrity.

I agree with you completely. Get the hell out of your office and go meet people. Naturally, this year has been a bit more challenging in that regard.  However, when there's a will, there's a way.

I totally agree with everything you said. My biggest challenge here in my new state has been expanding my "local" database of referral partners/sphere especially during this crazy year. I knew one person when I moved here! So I have been slowly meeting people in the community. It's taking time!

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - Very thought-provoking ...A first-time client is always very leary.  They have their guard up. Why?  They have dealt with salespeople and see that they can be all over the spectrum when it comes to this subject.  They may not show it but sometimes they test me to see if I can be trusted.  Talk is cheap, I prefer to show clients why they were right to choose me.
