Our Favorite Christmas Movie: The Bishop's Wife

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

We love old movies in black and white (not colorized).  The video above is the trailer from the movie, The Bishop's Wife, starring Loretta Young, David Niven, and Cary Grant as the debonair angel sent to aid David Niven (the bishop) with his perceived problems of fund raising.  It premiered in 1947, and it won an Academy Award for the music.

We have seen it several times, and each time we sit back satisfied at having seen it again.  There a few side stories included which are utterly charming...

This is our Third entry in the Holiday Fun and Cheer December Challenge which is hosted by both Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker and Carol Williams . Thank you both!

Good Morning Ron and A!

The only black and white movies I remember vividly are Breakfast at Tiffany's, Gone with the Wind. How could I forget the line "Frankly darling, I don't give a damn." Audrey's capriciousness in Breakfast made her unforgettable.

Happy Holidays to both of you!

Good morning, Alexandra. If I ever saw this movie, I don't remember. I just finished watching "My Name Is Julia Ross" with Nina Foch on TCM in black and white. I will have to keep an eye open for The Bishop's Wife on TCM and record it.

James Dray it has nothing to do with age.  I think filming in black and white tells a better story because it involves the viewer imagination in the story.   A

Hello Alexandra and Ron - while I enjoy movies and the movie-going experience, it is rare for me to watch a movie more than once.  Rare, yes but when it comes to many things in life including movie, I don't use "never.  Holidays and holiday movies seem to inspire tradition.

Michael Jacobs I know you are a movie buff.  There are movies that once was enough.  I think that part of the reason we have seen movies several times comes from having taken a class at UCLA on the subject.  We saw upcoming movies as well as a discussion with the director and sometimes the actors.  We took a couple of those film classes and it was enlighteming.

At the time, we had friends in the biz and listened to their discussions on the subject, and were avid fans of Siskel and Ebert.  And they really discussed a film rather than gloss over a review. For us, it is an art form, and I have looked at many paintings over and over again.  A

I remember Siskel & Ebert.  I enjoyed the show especially in its early days.
