Taxes In Palm Beach County- We Win Lower Taxes

The Palm Beach County Commissioners were complaining as always that all their little pet projects were not going to be financed this year because THE PEOPLE  voted for guess what! LOWER TAXES and the new property tax bill that was on the ballot this past January PASSED! Hmmm, I wonder why!  I don't think our 'leaders' ever get a clue and often I wonder what planet they are living on. They are SO out of touch with reality and with the PEOPLE'S will! The property tax bill to lower our Florida state property taxes passed. It was a small step in the right direction. There is much more work to do to get the property taxes lowered more. The January ballot was just a drop in the bucket.

So the Palm Beach County Commissioners start crying about how they aren't going to have their coffers full this year. You see, the property values went down! That means less taxes! Well, you know what I say to that? I say tighten up your purse strings, get frugal, be thrifty! NOT- Let's figure out how to get more money from the PEOPLE!  Now why would we all want to lower our property tax bill and then just have the county come in and add new taxes to offset what they are not getting in our property tax bill? I just don't get what they are thinking!

They had their ' let's get more money' meeting this past Thursday. They wanted to raise our taxes by 8.3%!!!!!!! WHAT!?! County Commissioners, if you are reading this post, let me say that you need to get out and get in touch with the people!

The Realtors® were the only group that stood up to speak up and against raising your taxes. They were the only group that stood up to demand lower taxes for you.  You see, we are the ones that are in the trenches with buyers and sellers who are being affected first hand by these taxes. I was not able to go to the meeting because I woke up with a temperature of 103 that morning. Many agents took the time out of their busy days to be at this workshop to represent the will of the people.

Our board of Realtors® generated over 1,900 emails to our County Commissioners in just 5 days!

The commissioners that voted for the will of the people were: Commissioner Kanjian, Marcus, McCarty and Greene. Please make a note of who these commissioners are. Commissioner Chairwoman Addie Greene was the swing vote.

Now as in all politics just because we won this fight, the battle for lower taxes is not over. We must stay in touch with what they are doing in these meetings. They must stick to this decision and we are the ones who must make sure they do.

Make your voice count, be heard. These meetings are open to the public. Take time out of your busy day to protect your rights as citizens. Those that stand around and complain about how they don't like higher taxes but don't do anything about it, have no rights to complain. Make your voice heard where it counts!

Katerina:  Congratulations on your winning of the battle--but, continue to be proactive and you'll eventually win the WAR!  I commend your Board for forging forward on this; alot of Boards are apathetic and do NOTHING--and to those agents who stood up on behalf of homeowners--CONGRATULATIONS on a job well-done.

BTW:  I hope you're feeling better?!

If I were a resident in your community I would been impressed with the Realtors that helped prevent the increase of taxes.  Way to go!

Debe- Thanks!  The Realtors (R) here have been very proactive in the battle against raising taxes. I am surpirsed that no one else seems to even care:(

Mindy and Jay- Thanks! This is the beginning of a long battle. This November the house is supposed to have another lowering taxes bill on the ballot. I hope it is more than the chinzy one we got in January.

KAterina - It sounds like your political leaders need to be replaced. The voters in Tennessee have resisted an income tax for years, even though of Democrat Governor keeps trying to sneak in in. THe voters in this state have finally decided to vote for republicans instead of democrats, because they are tired of hearing about how raising taxes will improve the schools. After hearing it for 50 years, I can say that the county with the highest tax rate (Davidson) has the lowest scores for their schools in all of middle Tennessee. They also spend over $8000 per studient, and the scores keep dropping.

On the other hand, Williamson county just south of Davidson county has the best schools in the State according to test scores, and they have much lower property taxes than Davidson. They also spend a lot less per student.

A good example that raising taxes will not solve the problem.

Larry- Oh,yes, they all need to be replaced. But that is a problem, some of our county residents want the services and will pay higher taxes to get them and the others do not want higher taxes. No one even shows up for these votes! I am surprised the only group of people that stood up to speak were the Realtors! They waste SO Much money. I homeschool my kids but I still care that the others get a good education, but all they do in school is push the kids to get higher test scores so they will get more money. It is awful There is a good book about this testing and how it is going to make the kids failures, Collateral Damage.

Nicholas- Yes, I have a way of doing that! I am NOT politically correct nor do I want to be. I will let you know when my Katerina's View is up and running. It will be a blog to reach out with my voice to share my passion and actions to save our country from socialism. It will be separate from real estate for obvious reasons.  I will send you an invite once I have it put together.

Katerina, one of the engines that has driven the growth of Florida is low taxes.  As with all freedoms, freedom from over-taxation is a battle which must be fought regularly.  It comes back every year, just like ants and mosquitos.

Taxes, ants, and mosquitos. Very nice analogy Brian.

I am glad that the people won on this one. The politicos never get it.
