Motivational Monday - The Struggle is Real

So many quotes came to mind this past week to feature for today’s post. Life happens, struggles happen. Ah-ha, that's it! Let's talk about life's struggles and their outcomes. I’m a firm believer that the manner in which we approach these struggles has a lot to do with the outcome. Some of just this week's struggles come to mind...

StrugglesProgress

This past week we had more political divisiveness - this struggle is real and is first and foremost in many American’s minds. We want to be ‘united’ but, our approach to our differences (struggles) seems to be impacting, fairly severely, the outcome.

Our REALTOR® organization is leading us down challenging paths - policing our every move. Now, that’s going to be a struggle! I want to know how many employees we will need to pay salaries to police all 1.5 million or so agents during their personal time. Perhaps Alexa can help?

The Struggle Is RealBuyers are struggling to find homes in their price range and then when they do, struggling to find the perfect recipe to win the ensuing bidding war. Again, I think the approach to the struggle has a lot to do with the progress/outcome.

Personally, I have been majorly challenged, getting my husband from the house to our dock. Who knew that it would even BE a challenge at all? The issue is that the angle from the yard to the dock requires a very long walkway/ramp to meet the angle issue (and make the ramp ADA compliant). Also, piers have to be installed in our riprap and then it’s a challenge building anything on top of those piers in the riprap!

We got quotes from several dock builders whose pricing was over-the-top. It was obvious that the job was too challenging for them, they didn’t want to take it on so, they made sure (with pricing) that they wouldn’t get the job!

Ramp design

We decided to get a structural engineer to give us direction and a plan, thinking that would help a contractor see that it could be done. Sure enough, one took it on and it’s been a lot of fun, watching the walkway come to fruition.

I was, however, reminded on Saturday that once I realized this wasn’t going to happen in a day, I began to appreciate the process. Our contractor, also a dear friend of ours, knows me well so, he set me straight! I had been a little disappointed that the ramp wasn’t complete and I must have shown it.

I decided I was going to make it my mission to get out there, dig in and help every minute that I could. Now, talk about struggle - it’s REAL! We are seeing progress now and it is so exciting. I know now why Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Deck Landing/Walkway

Will any of these issues be an issue in 5 years? That’s one question that I always ask myself - if it is going to matter to me in 5 years. 99% of the time, it is NOT!

Do you leave the struggles behind that you don’t have control over? Or, do you attack all struggles head-on, making them your own?

Without the struggle, there is no progress.

Have a great week ahead, full of great progress!

Like you, Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543, I will admit to sliding up the side for the surprise on occasion! The only way you can do that though, is by keeping your poker face and not letting a soul know you are bothered by the issue! LOL

Hope to see you on our ZOOM call today!

Oh my gosh, I ask myself the same thing - although I don't even have to ask myself anymore because it's just sort of built in --- "Will this matter in 5 years?"

Almost always, the answer is no.

That's funny, Kat Palmiotti! It really is something that is almost inherent now and you're exactly right, the answer is almost always no!

Good morning Debe Maxwell, CRS in the last week, I have seen agents post about how there is a coup this week, the Internet will be shut down this week and even that JFK Jr is alive and his death in '99 was a hoax. These were posts by agents on public social media accounts.

Designing and constructing those long ramps can be challenging.

It is good to see that you have the process under control.

I'm AMAZED that agents take that route, posting their political beliefs online, Rocky Dickerson. I mean, isn't it obvious that they are eliminiating ½ of their business by doing so? Half (more or less!) voted for the other side, right?

When I'm reading whackadoodle posts socially, I wonder if those posting them even realize that they've lost many readers' respect, let alone future business.

I believe it will be worth it, Grant Schneider! Ray taken on a kind of, 'why bother' attitude. I believe the minute he sets wheels on that dock, he's going to understand exactly why I've been so persistent about this!!

It really is, Roy Kelley! I had the 'dream,' the 'vision' and never had any idea it would be this challenging!

Hi Debe Maxwell, CRS good for you. We faced some challenges during our kitchen remodel - one in particular, involved converting an old electric range to a gas model. Everyone kept trying to talk us out of it...Bernie and I thought creatively and it worked - and passed inspection. Very important part of the remodel process, as you well know. Hang in there Debe, you'll get there. It's looking good too.

As for hearing others political view points, I'm sick of them. All the lecturing going on - from agents, from friends, from strangers. I'm guessing we all have pretty strong viewpoints on the current state of our country - it's time to shut the heck up - enough from both sides.

Hi Debe Maxwell, CRS, regardless of where we are in our lives, we will always have some challenges. To overcome our personal challenges is the easy part.

When it comes to others' political views, I don't want to read about them anymore and had no choice but to block some people on my FB page. Being quiet doesn't mean we don't care or we don't have an opinion but it is just enough.

Debe it is odd that some people talk unity, and then all their actions are to divide.

Equally odd is how organizations who are suppose facilitate, actually only create obstacles instead of overcoming them.

In five years I imagine a lot of the same struggles will be with our country.  The more we focus on what makes us different and not unite under our commonality as citizens of this great country and embrace our founding documents, we are going to be tearing this country apart at the seams no matter who or what party is in charge.  At least we can notice a difference in the things we do to deal with our own struggles.

Debe- it is truly a stressful time for all of us. What happened to the days when we could agree to disagree.  I was on a call today from a friend who has a different perspective than I do. She was calling out the ills she saw and the lack of fairness. Then in the next breath, she told me how her daughter pulled strings to get my friend a vaccine while others are waiting for them. While I have a friend whose 102 year old mother is waiting for her shot!  I was so proud of myself for not saying what I wanted to say because she has been a friend.

Oh my gosh, I couldn't agree more about the political comment, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - it does nothing but, divide us. Let's just stop discussing it, stop watching news and get on with life!

We actually did the same thing with our kitchen - from electric cook-top with a down-draft to running gas line and adding a range with grill, necessitating a chimney up-draft and out the roof vent! It's a job and it will get done - just like our ranges did.

I've just had a little problem with impatience when it comes to this ramp. I think if I wasn't so excited to have Ray actually sit on that dock and enjoy a sunset from there, the timeline wouldn't be so frustrating!

You have a loving and legitimate reason for being impatient.

I did the same thing, Beth Atalay - I don't mind sharing that I am an Independent. So, I was getting it from all sides and like you, just had enough!

And, heaven forbid I try to explain how 'the other side is feeling' or 'what they are saying is...' - it's like talking to a wall! LOL

It was certainly a mentally exhausting week, George Souto! It is obvious that there is no genuine concern for unity. I don't know how we ever get it back (unity) - it seems the sides are just too far apart to meet common ground.

And our organization has jumped the shark! I also have no idea how to 'fix' it other than to just do away with it and allow the states to run their own ships.

Funny, I wrote my comment to George above, before reading yours, Chris Ann Cleland! With social media, I really don't seen another unifying president like Reagan - or even Clinton (Bill, of course!) - on the horizon. It's not that there is not one with a cross-aisle reach but, that the lines have been dug deeper in the sand on almost every issue.

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg and I worry where our country is headed. As you mentioned, I really don't think there is anything we can do about this issue (as individuals). We can, however, take pride in conquering our own struggles and celebrate our own progress!

Oh my gosh, there's NOTHING fair about that, Kathy Streib - just as there's not a lot of 'fair' going on right now across our great nation. I will say that you should be proud of yourself for not saying anthing. I don't know if I could have bitten my tongue that hard!!

Tomorrow will be a better, brighter day. That's progress, right?!!

Debe Maxwell, CRS - Life is a journey! Or maybe a struggle. But then again it could be a search for answers. What if it was one big roller coaster designed by humans? Or a Merry-go-Round? Maybe it's a piece of cake or not...

Challenges seems to be the glue that makes us stronger. As a kid, I watched Tarzan a lot. He just seemed to fly through the air in the jungle of life and everyone I knew, loved Tarzan, especially Jane!
