Can it be TOO COLD to Sell a Home?

Winter has it's grip on NH and most of the nation. But home selling does not stop. I got an interesting call from a Manchester New Hampshire area Home Seller.

She asked me if I was working today? Over night it snowed and wrapped up with some freezing rain. It is Tuesday, of course I am working.

The caller told me they came up from Florida. They need to sell their Luxury home and have one day to do it. They got my attention and soon told me that they called another Big town agency. They said, "it was too cold to list a home today, that they could come the end of the week."

"Too cold", it is actually 31 degrees out, not too bad for February. The roads were plowed and salted, just right to head out. I told her I sure could help her sell her home and could come this morning to help them out. The caller said how about now and I was out the door.

The roads were clear and not even much traffic. I got to the home and met the seller. She gave me the grand tour and told me their story. Her husband is not well. They made the trip back to NH to pack the house and get their belongings moved to Florida. They Love NH, but Florida is their winter home now. They do not need the big house anymore. Her husband wants this house sold so his wife will not have to deal with it if something happens to him.

They have been here 2 weeks and the house is ready to list. The moving trucks come today and they will fly back to Florida. They want the home in the hands of someone who can sell it and keep watch. After the tour we spoke about price. We spoke about my marketing plan. They loved everything and signed. The home will be emptied, the cleaner will come followed by the painters.

They thanked me for taking so much time with them. Thanked me for coming quickly and thanked me for answering my phone. I sat up a little as they thanked me for working on a cold day. This is NH, winter can have cold days, if you want to sell real estate, you can not just work the warm sunny ones.

The story wraps up with their kids arriving. The daughter asked if i could help them find a condo that they could spend half the year here in. I sure could and knew a couple of great ones coming on the market they could see. The daughter will also be selling her home come spring. With the greatest referral speech ever, the mom convinced her to have me go over the end of the week to see her daughters home.

The moral of the story is that it is important that every Buyer or Seller should not just choose any agent, choose the BEST agent for the job. Having an agent that works for you is a must.

My philosophy is simple, provide more personal and professional service to guide my clients through each step of the buying or selling process. All Agents are not created equal and every buyer or seller should take the time to hire the BEST not just the biggest. Those that hire me, find a dedication like no other.

Good morning Scott. When a seller wants to sell, it is time to do it. Our business is dependent on personal serivce and "No" is not part of that equation. Enjoy your day!

Hello Scott - it all depends, doesn't it?  One person's idea of cold is simply another version of business-as-usual.  Ah, perspective.

Too many agents are over the top into themselves.  We are a service business and the people that give the service get the business.  Well done

No time like the present to get it done.  I know you are used to snow and cold up there.

Over the past 39 years I have shown property during some pretty outrageous weather conditions, etc.  I must say, when a family member mentioned -6 degrees at their location yesterday, I think that might have given me a little pause.  However, usually there are ways to make it happen!

Hi Scott- I don't know what the other agents were thinking. We bought a home in Northern VA when it was feezing and there was snow on the ground.
