Nature's Role in Climate Change

Climate change is the ongoing cyclic variation in the global mean temperatures due to solar system influences. It has led to human existence and will cause the extinction of humanity, perhaps millions of years from now. Climate change affects and interplays with existing weather patterns and cycles, and these amplified cycles produce visible, tangible effects.

Climate Change Adaptation

Adaptation is the modification of habits or structure to exist in the environment. Climate change adaptation comes from the acceptance that a changing climate is likely or inevitable. It puts measures to allow one to cope by assuming that it can predict the effects more quickly.

Adaptation describes the action to adapt a country's infrastructure to the changing climate. It is very much dependent on regional conditions: some regions might become more prone to hurricanes or typhoons, while others might be experiencing desertification. Adaptation action might involve building flood barriers in the first case and something like building water reservoirs in the second.

Forests

Wildfires have been increasing recently in the US, Australia, and many other regions due to global warming. As a result, when wildfires grow, the air quality deteriorates due to the mixing of particulates and harmful pollutants.

Coastal Regions

Up to 44% of Earth's population lives in coastal zones, and they are the most likely to be exposed to storms and rising sea levels.

According to UNFCCC, the most effective way for protection can be creating dunes and coastal wetlands or investing in afforestation. Building floating farms and growing salt-resistant crops can help too.

Agricultural Regions

Weather changes such as storms and droughts can result in a decrease in grain yields. Thus, causing problems in food production.

To ensure food security, farmers can grow different crops or change the timing of farm activities. It is also essential to improve water usage and maintain grass waterways to secure the hydration of the crops.

What to do?

Climate change is an essential issue that needs to be discussed by all countries multilaterally. It is undoubtedly one of this century's most extensive destabilizing violence. It threatens our global economy, endangers our health, and leads to a military battle. Climate change issues include sustainable cultivation, energy safety, climate-related action, climate agreements, and negotiations.

The most crucial step is to educate ourselves, create communities, organize forums, and convince our governments of the importance of taking the necessary measures.

Great article. Yes, it has been getting warmer for the past 10,000 years. The current North America had a glacier ice sheet over it per Wikepedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Glacial_Period

"The end of the last glacial period, which was about 10,000 years ago, is often called the end of the ice age, although extensive year-round ice persists in Antarctica and Greenland. Over the past few million years the glacial-interglacial cycles have been "paced" by periodic variations in the Earth's orbit via Milankovitch cycles.""
