Homeowners over 55 are seeking solutions in their daily lives that will help them maintain and provide their safety and security.   Smart technology is part of the answer to help older people to age in place.  This will improve their quality of life and allow them to be independent longer.  Such things as smart beds which can be customize for individual needs and systems that detect falls are great options in achieving this goal. According to The Hartford and MIT AgeLab study older Americans’ major concerns are home maintenance, safety and security, making daily life easier and convenient, saving money, and saving energy.  Study by Freddie Mac over half of the adults over 55 plan to remain in their home.  These adults are wanting smart-home tech devices that will assist them in their daily routine such as: voice-activated home assistants and doorbell cameras. Following is a list of tech devices that most popular among older adults: smart smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, wireless door bell cameras, keyless entry, automated lighting, smart water shutoff values, smart home security systems, smart outlets and plugs, smart thermostats, water and mold monitoring sensors, smart window blinds, systems that track, record and share vital signs with their medical provider, medical data on a smartphone, medication reminder that tracks a persons’ use and updates caregivers, monitors that track movement throughout house and notify caregivers if a fall has been detected, and tracking sleep cycles, breathing and heart rate and can update your caregiver’s smartphone.
