As adult HUMAN beings we are seldom as vocal as the dog in this three strip cartoon (this is strip 2 of 3). If you wish to see 1 of three it is the post Go Home.

The Real Estate application I'm going with is: Are you to busy sleeping to jump when your client says jump!

Most experienced agents no longer jump every time we hear Jump as we have established our business and our clients know that we have boundaries that we will not cross unless we truly see the urgency to jump. Some clients are like puppies needing a lot of attention. Those clients are ones the experienced agents usually pass on to an associate who needs to cut their teeth on the bone of experience.

If you are a new agent I suggest you do jump until you have trained your clients that you too have a life and you are developing your boundaries. All of us have been puppies and all of us have trained puppies... just learn to do it with love and compassion.

The cartoon above is number two in a series of three. I think it's a good/funny series so I may continue it later or tomorrow depending upon your reaction.

Thank you once again to Timmothy N. Timm for the use of his comic strip Titus & Philemon. To learn more about Timmothy N Timm, The Titus & Philemon Art Gallery and/or The Timmothy N Timm Art Studio visit his website HERE.

Hello Bob... I've never "jumped." Even when I was a new agent. Fortunately, the way we sold coops in NYC precluded jumping for the most part. So I developed a good habit early on and now when I have new clients I tell them up front how I work and when I work. If you set expectations up front they don't complain.

You were fortunate to have learned that way Nina Hollander, Broker where my first broker was good in several areas he didn't train us to say no or set boundaries. Perhaps he thought that if we worked 24/7 he would be even richer 😍.

Bob "RealMan" Timm the owner of my brokerage in NYC was the first to tell me I had to put in limitations on my time and access to clients.

Good afternoon,

Love the cartoon strip! Even as new agents its good to learn to set boundaries and earn the respect of your clients. You will find you don't burn out and you will service your clients better.

Hi Bob-You can't be available 24/7 without some amount of burnout of some kind. It's best to express how you will be helping in a way that your clients understand.

Well said Dorie Dillard Austin TX . It's never to early to set ones boundaries in business as well as many other aspects of life.

And yet I see agents say that they are available 24/7 Kathy Streib . As you said, it's a sure ticket to burnout.

Having boundaries is necessary to keep some sort of balance in life. Although all of us might have different boundaries as to what/when we will do things. And that's all okay!

Balance in life is so essential Kat Palmiotti . I totally live a different life today then I did before my kids were born. I worked 12 to 16 hours a day BUT because my dad was a work-a-holic I cut my hours to 40 a week once they were born. My income dropped by nearly 80% but I have GREAT kids today. It was well worth the financial sacrifice.

Timmothy needs to keep nurturing is comic talent, Bob!  Heck, he might even become the next Zelensky, who started out as a comic, and ended up becoming president of the Ukraine!
