Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

I had a call, yesterday, from an agent who asked to have his client view my new listing.  We set an appointment for Sunday.

Today, I had a call from the very same agent ... he asked if I would be willing to show the property to his clients ... and he would not attend.  While I currently am accompanying my showings on that property, I still wanted to know the "why" about it.

He sheepishly told me that he'd had a... well, kind of a ... mild heart attack.  He went on to explain that he'd awakened this morning, with a little heartburn that just wouldn't go away.  He made his way to urgent care, and they immediately called his wife and sent him off to the ER.

They hooked him up to the Real Estate Agent monitor and he was having a heart attack whilst hooked up to the monitor.  They explained that he was gonna be fine... and was fortunate he came in as quickly as he did, because it had the potential to be a big one.  In the meanwhile they've put him on a blood-thinner, and told him to take it easy (not always easy in our profession).

I was happy to aid in his recovery.  I hope he retains enough energy to write up a clean and generous offer.

Good morning, Alan... while I don't normally show another agent's client one of my listings... in this case I would have certainly gone out of my way. In England, our expression was "don't get your kickers in a twist."

I will almost always accommodate an agent, and show their clients my listing.  I do like to hear the reason, and make sure it's not something frivolous (I have a hair appointment, for example).  It's in my seller's best interests.

I try not to get my knickers in a twist.

Yikes! Good thing he got to the doctor in time and yes, he should save his strength to write a great offer!

Hmm, I didn't realize that there was a real estate agent monitor, much less that it could detect heart attacks, haha.

Sure... you know the one... it detects real estate agent stress levels.

Good morning Alan,

Things happen and we are here to help each other out. I'm sure he is storing your generosity in his memory bank for the future!

I assume so, as well... but I'm not banking on it.

Good morning Alan. While I normally would not show for another agent, in this situation bring it on. There are exceptions to every rule. No seconds on this one. Enjoy your day.

I will almost always show for another agent, assuming they have a decent reason.

At least he was not out of state at a wedding that he completely forgot about when he made the appointment. Yes, I will show you when you double book and have a heart attack.  I work for the seller's best interest in getting the property sold.

Good morning Alan,  I think of many questions in the RE world as 'why and what does it matter?'  I believe your desire in wanting to have an explanation to show another's client is completely within reason and in this case gave you actually 'good' cause beyond the benefit of your seller.  Kudos.  Mark

Alan- I would have wanted to know as well because "my hairdresser had a last-minute opening" doesn't cut it for me. That said, whatever is in the seller's best interest is the key.

Good for him to getting to the ER in time, and good for you for showing the house for him. Sounds like it went well if you're expecting an offer.

It would have been harsh to have said no after he explained his situation and maybe he would even allow you to write that generous contract

it would have been harsh, and unreasonable... at least in my own humble opinion.
