NEW HAMPSHIRE -- FIRST FOR INDEPENDENCE
Here is a piece of trivia that I was unaware of until I was researching the history of America.
Way back in 1776, when the colonies were voting for independence, the First and Second Constitution Congresses used a complicated geographical scheme to decide the order of voting - with each colony (or state after July 4, 1776) having one vote. IT MUST HAVE BEEN A SCENE RIGHT OUT OF THE MOVIES WHEN THE VOTE BEGAN ... THE FIRST QUESTION WAS "NEW HAMPSHIRE"?
It is reported that it most likely was Josiah Bartlett who cast the first YES vote for independence!
Thus, New Hampshire became
"FIRST FOR INDEPENDENCE"
This July 4th marks the 232nd anniversary. We all give thanks to our founding fathers and for those who have continued to sacrifice so that we may live in a land of freedom. For this, we give thanks today.
Happy Birthday America
