NEW HAMPSHIRE

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- FIRST FOR INDEPENDENCE

Here is a piece of trivia that I was unaware of until I was researching the history of America.

Way back in 1776, when the colonies were voting for independence, the First and Second Constitution Congresses used a complicated geographical scheme to decide the order of voting - with each colony (or state after July 4, 1776) having one vote.   IT MUST HAVE BEEN A SCENE RIGHT OUT OF THE MOVIES WHEN THE VOTE BEGAN ...  THE FIRST QUESTION WAS "NEW HAMPSHIRE"?

It is reported that it most likely was Josiah Bartlett  who cast the first YES vote for independence!

            Thus, New Hampshire became

             "FIRST FOR INDEPENDENCE"

This July 4th marks the 232nd anniversary.  We all give thanks to our founding fathers and for those who have continued to sacrifice so that we may live in a land of freedom.  For this, we give thanks today.

                     Happy Birthday America

happy 4th of July

janeAnne ~  I love the way you see the world through eco -colored glasses ("green-o-lina").  I am excited about a green post I am preparing regarding the opening of a new green business in Nashua.  Thanks for all that you do.  Your series is so fascinating.

Hey Joan, Great article. Thanks for responding to my "only" blog post entitled "treadmill blogger". We used to live in Manchester, NH before we moved to Orlando, FL 20 years ago. Beautiful state you got there, sure do miss it. 300 posts? wow, great job! Send referrals! :)

Hi Scott -- I have found a lot of people who "used" to live in New Hampshire.  Maybe those winters sent them off to other places.  Hope to see more blogs -I'll keep you in mind if anyone is moving to Orlando -- and let me know if anyone want to move back to beautiful NH.

Joan thanks for commenting on my blog.........I'm always surprised at how many 'more' neat people there are out there that somehow with just a few minutes here and a few minutes there you seem to be like 'ships that pass in the night'......and not meet!  :-)

Hi Joan...Must say I admire those New Englanders.  It just goes to show how smart the ones in New Hampshire were to be the first to vote for independence.  We owe them a big thanks!
