After lunch today I went with a friend to a local animal shelter to look for a dog. Whenever I go there, I always have a look at the cats. I enjoy cats, and have rescued a few in my time but never one as important as this one.
I saw an adorable little kitten, all alone, looking very docile. I thought it was cute as can be, but there are many cute kittens in the world and I was sure he would be adopted by a nice family.
When we got back to the office, however, my co-worker emailed the link to the shelter website. The kitten was scheduled to be euthanized the very next day. I had several appointments, so I called the pound and asked if they could stay the execution for a few hours tomorrow so I could get the kitten.
No way! Rules are rules, and at 8:30 A.M. in the morning the kittens short life would be over. I was furious that no accommodation would be made to save the animal's life so instead I went into action.
I rescheduled my appointments and went and got the kitten. I had to. I can offer this little one a good and decent life, and I hope that he will be good company for LeMieux, my beautiful tuxedo cat.
I never dreamed when I set out this morning that I would have a new addition to the family. We don't have a name yet, but I think that "Phoenix" would not be out of the question. Just another day in the life of a real estate agent!
