Most of us need to occasional hear or in the case of blogging read that the efforts that we put into our blogs will lead to connections with consumers, community leaders and other local authorities.

Whenever a new blogger post on Active Rain it is always great to see the number of people who stop by and say hello.  We read about the success that Active Rain has brought to the businesses of many of the agents, loan officers and stagers and I know in the beginning of my blogging days it helped me know that some interesting things could occur if I was able to make the connections.

Nightly Business ReportLast week I posted that I was giving blogging kudos for almost 50% of my business in July.  Over this past weekend I was contacted by our local PBS channel about my take on the housing stimulus bill.  The end result was an on camera interview with a local reporter that was broadcast last night.

This wasn't my first connection with the local press and at least this time on air they didn't cut and splice the story to make it meet their agenda.   As someone who hates to have their picture taken having a camera rolling is more "exposure" than I really want to have.  However, it is another example of how blogging about your area and what is happening in the market can bring you opportunities that you would never have imagined when you wrote your first post.

There were points in time over the last 18 months that I questioned why I was spending time writing.  Usually just about the time I was ready to throw in the towel I would read a post by someone who was having success with blogging.  Those posts helped renew my enthusiasm and finish a post or two of my own.   So for everyone who is writing their first post today don't give up.  If you have an opinion, state it.  If you know your area, write about it.   What you write today may not seem all that important but you don't know who is reading and that person might be the next connection that changes your business.

Hi Cindy,

As a newbie to blogging, it was good to read your post.  How much time to do spend writing?

4:07pm • #5

Thanks for the encouragement as a new person to active rain and learning about blogging- also would like to know how much time do you spend on this weekly?

Ok, thanks for the words of encouragement, I'll start writing again. I did lose interest and asked myself many times over the summer (as well as others close to me) why I would spend time writing. I heard over and over again Real Estate is about contact relationships and blogging is a waste of time. I began to believe it.

Al-it depends on how my brain is working.  Some weeks the ideas for blogs are right in front of my face and I might not spend more than 5 or 6 hours posting and commenting.  Other weeks I struggle and find myself at closer to the 10 hour mark.  Most of my blogging is early morning or later evening and not mid-day.

I am fairly new to blogging, its nice to see that other people are not sure what to do.  I am very excited to hear that you were noticed by the media.  In my area the media puts out so much negative regarding the housing market it makes the agents feel distressed.  Its great that you can make a difference by blogging.

I have to say it is a rollercoaster ride for me.  I really want to be a featured post... I don't know why maybe just for a sense of accomplishement... Like I'm doing the right thing.  And it does get a liitle aggravating when I wrote a blog and didn't get much response and then notice today that someone wrote about the exact same thing and has over 70 comments and 1100 views.  What the....?  Aggitated but I'll keep blogging.

This is a great post for first time bloggers.  I am sure this will definately help in business and relationship building.  I also feel blogs are a great way to market your listings, so I would like to offer some more advice on blogging.  Look at blogs as unique web pages.  The more you have the better your web exposure.  So,  check out vflyer.com and postlets.com.  These 2 sites will allow you to auto post your listings and give you greater exposure.  Good luck!

Sincerely,
