Make the Appropriate Shifts....

I had the opportunity this week to listen to motivational speaker, Walter Bond.  If you ever have the opportunity to see him I would highly recommend that you go.

One of the statements that he made while talking about mastering the fundamentals was, "Make the Appropriate Shifts".  When he made this statement he also said that we need to be "flexible" in our business.

Well, you might say, this is nothing more than a fundamental in business.  Ok then, if that is the case, am I flexible when it comes to my business?  Am I looking for other sources of business?  If I am a listing agent do I need more listings or should I be looking for more buyers?  Am I learning more about short sales and what it takes to become an expert in this area?  What am I doing to prevent me from becoming just another statistic?  Or on the other hand am I just coasting, waiting for a turn around to happen overnight?

We need to begin making the appropriate shifts in our business in an effort to be ready for the turn around.  It may take on getting more education in different areas so we can be the expert and are able to talk to our clients in a more professional manner.  This way we become known as the source to go to when they have a question.  Now is the time to become really, really good as well as be ready for the changes before they happen.

As the purging in the business continues will you be one of its victim?  Or is your attitude one that says, "If there is a purging in the industry it won't be me"?

See you in the new market!

Great post. Thanks!

Russ,

The old market is going to take on a new look and feel.  IMHO, we need to be looking at ways to shift our business and still not let go of some of those things that have made us a success.

Kevin,

Yes sir it is!!!

Richard,

You may have missed third gear but hopefully you didn't strip the gear and can go back and catch it and keep on moving.

Thank you my friends for stopping in and commenting this evening.

Don, Good post!  I agree, there are shifts that we need to make in our businesses or our approaches to our businesses.  Those that can make those shifts should excel in whatever conditions exist after the market turns!

Aloha Don,

Yes it is an ever changing market and you need to adapt or fall by the wayside.

Making a shift is really about taking responsibility for your own success or failure. It is easy to blame the economy or the loan situation than it is to make a change...to get outside of your comfort zone. Just a thought...

Tony & Darcy,

We don't have to make drastic shifts to see a change but, we do need to make a shift.

Bill,

Ever Changing is so right and we need to be alert to what is happening all around us or as you say fall by the wayside.

Elizabeth,

It is always easier to blame someone or something else than it is to take responsibility for our actions.  You are so right we do need to get outside of our comfort zone and go to work.  GBU ma'am.

Don, we have a saying in the missions work I am involved in: If you 'think' you are 'Flexible' you are still to Rigid!  Meaning you have to be/do it, not this think it.  congrats on getting to number two in our beautiful state (on AR)-  be good  cheryl(being flexible)willis

Cheryl,

This is not the time to become ridgid.  This market does not give us that opportunity.  I have to constantly check my flexibility.

You surprised me when you said I am #2 in the state, I knew I was close but did not realize I had moved into that spot.  Thank you

Don...

Great post about adjusting to whatever happens. But as an aside, I love the depot theme. I have made it my mission to photograph every railroad depot remaining in Georgia. A lot are hard to find because they have been moved, but it's something i enjoy doing!

I hope that you have a great day!

Richard,

We do need to stay aware of the need for adjusting in this market.  Thank you sir for the comment on the railroad depot photo.  I just hope that it doesn't take too long to download and discourage people from waiting.

Likewise my friend I hope that you have a GREAT day.
