If you're not having fun, it's probably because you're not certain of where you are going?
If the people around you "Bug" you . . . maybe it's time to move on.
If you love what you're doing but aren't reaching a level of success that matches your potential . . . quit doing the same things.
Every chance you get . . . Put yourself in opportunity's way . . . get out there!
Don't sit and stew in your own swill thinking that you can dig yourself out all by yourself. That notion of "I got myself into this mess, so I've got to get myself out of this mess" just doesn't hold water for me.
There's no shame in seeking help from other folks who seem to have it all together.
There's great value in "Shadowing" someone whose work you admire . . . Simply ask them if you can "be a fly on the wall for a day" . . . and follow him/her around all day and observe and listen.
Go ahead and DREAM . . . Set your course based on those BIG DREAMS!
Immerse yourself in a world that GIVES you ENERGY!
Find exciting and interesting people and leave your comfortable sandbox and hop into theirs for a while for a fresh outlook (perspective).
Engage yourself in ANY available training opportunities within reach . . .
SHOW UP and LISTEN and PARTICIPATE FULLY!
Read great books . . . and read not so great books . . . JUST READ!
Turn off the TV (ESPECIALLY THE NEWS)
Subscribe to AT LEAST 5 Blogs and read them every day . . . Most (living) authors and great thinkers blog daily . . . If you read a great book, google the author and find his/her blogsite.
Share YOUR wisdom with the world and start a blog - Write on it every day!
Learn from young children - Live a life of inquiry - Question EVERYTHING!
NEVER NEVER NEVER doubt your abilities because I KNOW they are ONLY limited by your own willingness to follow your passion and assume personal responsibility to own your actions (and results).
Don't ever get yourself so busy that you don't have time for your family.
Pay attention to your actions and listen to your gut . . . If something doesn't feel "right" - PAUSE - contemplate and respond with conviction.
Know your personal standards . . . and do not allow yourself to compromise these standards.
It really is none of your business what other people think of you!
For heaven's sake, have patience with yourself and others . . . not everyone "gets it" at the same time - Fantastic Creativity and Spirit show up when they please.
BE REMARKABLE!
BE A LEADER!
I could go on for a while but will stop for now. My 7 year old daughter was on a trampoline last night jumping with her friends at the tail end of her season ending Soccer Party . . . I asked her 3 times to come off the trampoline as it was time to head home . . . all 3 requests had no effect whatsoever . . . She was fully engaged and having fun and could not hear me although my requests were plenty loud and firm . . . At the same time, Another parent was coaxing her daughter similarly with the same results.
hmmmm . . . Do we get angry and shout?
or . . .
I had a thought . . . Aren't we ALL leaders? Don't we ALL like to be the "Line Leader"? Isn't that exciting?
so . . .
In a normal tone, I said: "Allison! Show me what a great leader you are and get Cameron to come off the trampoline with you."
Guess what?
It WORKED!
30 seconds later, the 2 girls were sitting in front of us parents putting their shoes on.
I was very proud - Allison's leadership ability was confirmed - and the whole thing averted the imminent escalation of the situation into an all-out 2 family Parent-daughter BRAWL that was about to occur.
I believe that great LEADERS know where they are going, are happy and engaged . . . and know what they don't know and are ALWAYS seeking wisdom.
Best,
b
