I Don't Need A Real Estate Agent! OK.......

Really?

Are you sure?  Do you know every possible thing that could go wrong in any market  - let alone a market where qualified buyers need to be picked through to make sure you can close a transaction and not create a lawsuit along the way.

OK

Aubrey Cohen at the Seattle PI wrote up a piece about how Redfin is raising their prices to attract more market share. OK?  But that is another story.  What is amazing to me was the comments afterward about how many people really feel they do not need a real estate agent.

Kary Krismer is a local real estate agent and was so right with this response:

"The problem is some people think real estate is simple, because they don't know what they don't know."

I am constantly amazed at the do it yourself crown and admit to being one in some cases.... like baking cookies, making pizza, sewing a Halloween costume or two here and there - even washing my car - these are all great little ways to do something yourself and save money or make it better. Real Estate is not one of those things and I am not surprised that discount companies need to step up the service because this market is different! Buyers and sellers need experienced and knowledgeable help with their real estate transactions.

Seems to me this was inevitable.  I would espect that this is not the last of the changes we will see from Redfin.

Thanks for the link to the article.

Hey Rob - ya pretty interesting.  I like hacving different biz models around for buyer choices, but I don't see how raising prices is going to get them a ton more in revenues.  Time will tell.

Hi Courtney, whenever I have a buyer and they tell me there is no agent involved I cringe.  Every time this has happened it has been obvious that they need one.  For one thing they start to flood me with the questions that an agent is qualified to answer.  I flat out tell them that that is not my area of expertise and even ask them if I can recommend an agent to them.  Buyers that come to me from Redfin are another problem.  They also expect me to fill in the shoes of the missing agent----or half involved agent.

Kary *did* hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, such knowledge comes a bit too late... it's a school of hard knocks sort of thing.
