iPhone Applications - PART 1 - Real Estate Apps

iphone and applicationsAbout a month ago we finally broke down and purchased iphones. The same day our contract with the previous carrier was up, we rushed into AT&T store to grab the new iphone 3G's.

It took a little while to figure things out, but the learning curve was not steep. The hardest thing was probably trying to type words without hitting a wrong key on the small keypad. However there are ways to work around it + you get used to it.

Note for those trying to figure out twitter - iphone was the break I needed to crack the seemingly impermeable wall to understanding twitter. Yeay!  Now I'm hooked. Ok, Back on track.

There are sooooo many applications you can download to your iphone that it can make your head spin and take weeks if not months, to skim through only a fraction of them. Every day, new applications are popping up like mushrooms.

We love iphone apps! However, you can get carried away... and add way too many apps on your iphone. LOL. Brian is already removing some that he went and downloaded that are not even relevant geographically!

We'll give our spin on some applications we have found useful, helpful, fun etc. We'll tackle them by categories, so this post doesn't get toooo long and boring.

One easy way to find these applications is log onto your account and access the iTunes Store. Locate the search field in the upper Right hand corner and type in the word/term you are looking for.

itune search box

To find the below apps, type in the word below in Bold into the search field.
ALL OF THESE APPS ARE FREE!

This Part 1 - iphone Applications for Real Estate

Trulia -  NEARBY: Find open houses, houses for sale (based on your location or otherwise), see the houses on a map or as a listing, CUSTOM: search by city and state and add filters as needed

Home Finder
- search, recent searches or favorites. The great thing about this app. is that you can search by google base (searches some local MLS's and real estate websites) or craigslist or trulia. Fore craigslist you can also search FSBO's!

Note! If you have your own website with IDX search capabilities, you can of course search you site via the iphone.

Puluwai - Real Estate search: select location, min and max price, min and max bedrooms , and a specific description if you'd like.

Mortgage Calculator/Envirian - self explanatory. Fill in the requested fields and voila!

GPS - there are a few GPS tracker type of apps availalble for free, so depending on what is your preference, make your pick. We added MotionX GPS lite, because it will be useful for running, hiking, biking etc. even for geocaching.

Mileage Log
- tired of trying to figure out how many miles you drove? Two Apps can help you here. MileBug Lite and Milog Lite. The lite versions (read FREE versions) store limited amount of trips, so if you want more performance out of the apps, you can pay for the full version. But you can delete the old trips and keep working with the FREE apps too. Brian is currently using the Milog Lite.

NOTE! There are many, many other paid apps for all of the above sections. When you type in the search term you will also be able to see paid apps. Many of the apps cost start from $0.99 and go up from there.

Hope this was helpful for those of you who have an iphone or are thinking about getting one. As it would appear, we will be eating, sleeping and "what-not" with our iphones. That's how much use we are getting out of them!

See you soon for more iphone apps for Social Media and Networking!

I have bookmarked this post and I intend to return to it once I have an iPhone of my own, which will be in approximately 48 days (Christmas).

Rita - pretty cool stuff, I must say. I have heard others complain about the keyboard. In terms of the applications, though, how many can one REALLY use on a regular basis. Yep, fun to have but let's face it, how complicated does one want life to be? Is all that really necessary? Hmmm.  Guess I am not geeky enough. I have a life outside my phone (BTW I am hooked on my BB).

Brian and Rita,

I too absolutely love my iphone.  I am seeing new ways to use it in my business everyday.  I don't really find the key pad hard to use at all.  In fact, I love how it finishes my words and fixes all my terrible spelling too!  I found it very user friendly to figure out.

The only thing I find lacking is that although it is blue tooth capable...it doesn't seem to have voice activated calling at this time...but probably just as well.  I find I am concentrating on driving better and I got one heck of a nasty cut in my ear from my blue tooth...

I'm still trying to learn all the stuff on my VCR. I mean DVD player. I threw the VCR out because it just kept flashing 12:00 at me. Stupid thing. Now I've got so much stuff on my computer that I'm still learning all of it. I just want a phone that will make calls and receive calls. Real simple. Give me another 10 years and I'll be ready for an iPhone. By then they'll probably have an iEar or an iEye.

Love my Iphone, but can you download your outlook contacts to the contact program or is there a better contact program out there for iphone.  I also have top producer, but I find it cumbersome.  Any suggestions....

Laurie - do you mean adding all your contacts from outlook to the iphone? or are you referring to a more specific contact managment program? We added all contacts from outlook to iphone, it was pretty easy. ~Rita

Thanks for responding Rita, yes I was thinking of totally updating and cleaning up my current contact management system (Top Producer), then exporting it back to my outlook along with my calender etc., then from there transferring it over to my iphone contacts and calender. I just want to make sure Iphone contacts/calender is compatible with Outlook.  Thanks for your help.  I am new to AR and love this new form of networking!!

Hey guys, that's a great list!  I too am addicted to the apps and have been eating and sleeping with mine.  I'm actually getting to the point that I prefer it over my laptop, which is giving me even more mobility and freedom than I had before.

I'm on the verge of switching, and have asked fellow Rainers to convince me. I just posted my request on why I should switch

In one of my responses, I referred to your post --- and perhaps between our respective blogs, we can have a definitive answer (or overwhelming evidence) on which is the better phone or application for realtors: the Blackberry or the iPhone?
