This looks a little unsafe to me!

This looks a little unsafe to me!

I made sure when I was walking on this street, to not get to close to the huge electrical wire you see in the middle of the road.

This wire is propped up with bamboo sticks and you can see these men walking very close to it.

I guess certain things scare people more than others and this wire hanging above these men doesn't seem to bother them at all.

For me, You can see how far I was away from it, if this wire was to fall or get hit by a car driving by it could cause serious injury or death.

Robert,

Shocking....isn't it? Sorry for the pun, but couldn't resist.

Last week while showing condos to my clients we noticed a utility pole in the back just over/outside the fenced patio.  Only problem is that there were wires hanging down from that power pole and they were just inside the patio of the condo.  Who knows that they were. BTW, since most of our wiring is underground it's rare to see this situation.

This looks unsafe to me too.  It's amazing the things you get used to seeing in your environment.

Lynda - Thanks for your comment and high voltage electricity can be very dangerous.

Chris - Always a pleasure, I haven't seen you around for a while.

That seems to be pretty common practice in the third world. In Bangalore, there are probably about 100 times that many wires running down the street in an unsafe manner

Robert,

That's a crazy utility pole. You're right, wouldn't take much to knock it over. :)

Aung- Thanks for coming around and please check out my Myanmar (Burmese) blogs, I have so many of them with many photographs.

The real reason for the electric wire is because this was just after the Hurrican hit the Delta May 2008 in Yangon. I was there with my wife and her family.

Bob,

Whenever I travel abroad, I'm always amazed at how simple life is and obviously they haven't been hit with lawyers at every corner waiting for someone to get hurt.  In this country, that's a lawsuit in the making.

As always, I enjoy your photos and blogs.
