Interesting Facts About First-Time Home Buyers

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Platinum

First-time home buyers have risen in market share and plan to own their homes longer than buyers in the past.

The Median age of first-time buyers was 30, down from 31 in 2007, and the median income was $60,600.

The typical first-time buyer purchased a home costing $165,000 and plans to stay in that home for 10 years, up from seven years in 2007.

Since I specialize in First-Time home buyers, I will walk you through the process, every step of the way.  I understand this is the largest investment you will probably ever make.  Contact Kristin Johnston today!

Hi Kristin,

I bought my first home at age 23.  Had to have 20% down and interest rates were 14.75%.  I lived in it for 7 years and sold it for a profit.  Purchase price was $53,600 back then and I sold it for $73,000.  Best thing I have ever done in my life.  I hope your young buyers will realize their dreams by working with you as I did mine many years ago.  Have a great day.

Thanks Kelly! I bought my first (and only so far) house at age 24 for $160K, put $45K down, and still am so happy I didn't purchase for my full preapproval amount and live beyond my means.  I own 1 rental/duplex, and plan to buy more too.  Thanks for the comment as always!

Kristin, Kelly had me beat!  I was 23 with 20% down, but my rate was only 11.25%!  we forget how good we have it now with rates being so low.  I have always loved working with first time buyers and walking them trough the process to be sure they are comfortable at the end of the transaction.

These facts lean toward a direction that will return success in home ownership.  Flipping properties became a get rich quick scheme and we're all affected by that mentality.

Robert...wow!  Good for you guys, 23, amazing!  I forgot to mention, my rate was 8.25% back then, but then refi'ed to 6.5%.  We sure do have it nice now with rates.  Sounds like you and me both find first time home buyers rewarding, right?  thanks for reading/commenting!

Michael, while I still believe that flipping in certain situations makes good business sense, I think I agree with you on an overall basis.  Thanks for reading!

I love working with them too!  I run a monthly class every month, but attendance isn't good at all.  I wish I knew a way to connect with them.  I do some with brides so I get them that way and I work with a lot of teachers who often are first time buyers too.
