Sooooooooo... why is a 1/2 Irish, 1/2 French Canadian so excited about the election of an American president??? Two words, hope & change!

Since September 11th, 2001 we've all been through a lot. The world seems to have bought a one way ticket to hell with no way back. For many of us... Americans, Canadians, Europeans, etc... today feels different.

There is something about President Obama that gives us hope and a glimpse into better days ahead, new things to come.

I'm an optimist by nature and have enough life experience to know that no matter how bad things get, eventually they turn around. January 20th, 2009 feels like one of those pivotal moments.

It's not just because Barack Obama is young, bright, fresh or so freekin' articulate, it's because I can really relate to how he does things. He's in touch with how the world works and communicates and he's made it perfectly clear that it won't be "business as usual" in Washington.

The fact is that when the U.S. sneezes, the rest of us get a cold. So like you, I'm hopeful, happy and excited that you/we have a new President.

So what does any of this have to do with marketing? One of the things that really got my attention during the election campaign was how Barack Obama understood and used social media to raise funds, to reach out, connect and get his message across to so many people in so many ways. We could all learn a few lessons from his online marketing strategies.

I'm happy that today he put a freeze on salaries for the white house staff.  That's a step in the right direction.

Marti, I too admire the way that President Obama utilized all types of social media to reach out to America and convey his message of hope and change.  Great post with some terrific insights as always.  I need to also chat with you about some design work I need done.  Will touch base with you about that soon.  Take care and happy blogging!

Marti,

Yes the world needs something to be happy about, and if it is an American President all the better.

President Obama has, make no doubt about it, a long hard road. People must stay by him, for he will carry a great burden. I think he feels a calling, to do all he can. He is bright and articulate as any one I every seen. Let's hope, politics doesn't hold back his hopes and dreams.

Marti, it was interesting to hear the point of view of someone outside the US. "When the US sneezes..." is an apt observation. It was clear when our markets tanked, and the rest of the world experienced the ripple effect. Hopefully, as we recover, so too will everyone else.

Hi Marti-great post and I too have been feeling awesome and have spent a great deal reading...educating myself and really appreciating the World Hope feeling!  President Obama is fresh and unique...and truly reminds me of JFK!  People tend to judge too quickly...even in 100 days its not enough...the damage has been going on for years and years!

I've been doing a lot of reading outside the rain..its great because I need your list more than ever!  xoxo

So far I'm very impressed by his ability to read the pulse of the nation. He also appears to be rather collected and willing to take on the challenge. One week down and a few to go he's looking good to me.

Marti, thanks for the wealth of informaion you provided and touched by your comments about my man, Obama... Oh, yes, I am an Obamacrat!  So much so that on the day before the inauguration I was in Calgary teaching a staging class and when in the middle of it one of my wonderful Canadian students reminded me that tomorrow was the day.. I burst into tears and had a hard time getting back my professional composure...  OK, I felt like an idiot, but they understood and were kind to there blubbering idiot of an American instructor...  Thanks to all the Canadians who have had nothing but encouragement over the last year for us as we tried to change history.

Hi marti I am just checking in to see how you are doing. It was Jackson Pollock's birthday earlier this week ( I wrote a post about it even though it has nothing to do with real estate) and I thought about you. I am planning on listening in to the radio show about outside blogs today. I am thinking I want to do it but want to be sure that you would be able to help me customize it as much as possible. I will be in touch with you soon and hope all is well in your world!
