After visiting the Alamo.......still stuck in some sort of Reverie........we crossed the street and were enamoured by the neo-gothic architecture of the Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio built in 1929 - it truly is a gorgeous boutique type hotel......
The Scottish Cathedral....isn't it amazing?
San Antonio Courthouse and Post Office!
We then headed to San Antonio's famous shopping and dining district... "River Walk"...set amidst the winding banks of the San Antonio River. It was interesting to find out that the San Antonio Riverwalk is actually a city park! This was our first peek at eh the San Antonio!
As we made our way through the walkways leading to the River we Came across this Incredible glass mosaic.......dedicated to the city of San Antonio........
San Antonio - St. Anthony - Patron saint of Travellers - Given as a gift by the country of Portugal...
One of the biggest challenges is finding time to take in everything there is to do. The banks of the San Antonio are lined with fine restaurants, nightclubs, hotels and shops. So we decided our best bet was to take a Riverboat tour! The guide was fantastic........and in a much too short 30 minutes we probably learned more about the area then had we walked it on our own.
Casa Rio - River House - Sue and I shared some margaritas and nachos......mmm mmm
Over the centuries, all who found their way to this area have been blessed by the river and the abundance of life that its water has provided.
The restaurant founded in 1946 by Alfred F. Beyer, sits on land first granted title in 1777 by the King of Spain. The Spanish Colonial period hacienda became the core of the new business. The cedar door and window lintels, the fireplace, and thick rock walls, are still evident inside the building.
Casa Rio was the first San Antonio business to open its doors to the River and take advantage of the River's setting. Canoes, gondolas, and paddle boats, evolving into tour and dinner boats, began here and helped create the Riverwalk of today.
The Bridge Jennifer Lopez sat on while filming the movie of the life of Selena...
Apparently a favorite spot for Marriage proposals...........:-)
This Riverwalk locale houses the longest wooden bar in Texas, and in a state that's known both for its bragging and its drinking, that's quite an accomplishment. At 79 feet, the Esquire Tavern's old-school stool counter is host to two other records, neither quite so official as the first. For women, the walk along the bar has the reputation of being the longest ogling gantlet of any bar in Texas. And, according to the Dallas Morning News, the bar can hold an astounding 5,973 longneck bottles of Lone Star, which, being the "National Beer of Texas," is sold in abundance.
La Mansion Del Rio Omni Hotels Originally built along the banks of the San Antonio River in 1852 to serve as a school, the La Mansion Del Rio opened as a hotel in 1968. Today it is San Antonio's most elegant hotel, offering wonderful views of the world famous Riverwalk....
Nix Hospital and Medical Centre...Among the famous people born in this building are Carol Burnett, Oliver North, and San Antonio's most famous mayor, Henry Cisneros.
At its completion this was the largest and tallest hospital in the United States. It was the only hospital in a skyscraper, and the only hospital with doctor's offices, hospital beds, and a parking garage all in one building.Because of the building's sharp angles, the view from the Riverwalk presents an optical illusion that the facing wall is one-dimensional.The building's shape is in the form of an "L". The south side of the building is cut off diagonally by the riverwalk which runs through the building's block creating the illusion of a flat wall from the perspective of the river.
Hand hewn stones used as a sitting area or as stairs leading up to the wonderful shops of La Villita...
La Villita Historic District, which is filled with shops and galleries, is just above the Riverwalk

"When the market shifts most people get confused and start believing that the floor is the ceiling when actually the ceiling is now the new floor. Our world and assuredly our markets are being built from the ground up and you can get in on the bottom floor and ride the next wave to the top. Forget about the past, the future is going to be controlled by those who see the opportunities that lie ahead and are rewriting the rules. You can either live in the past or break free to the future." Gary Keller
