Home Staging DRAMA

By
Home Stager with Gloria Home Staging, Inc.

"Striking in appearance or effect" is one of the ways Webster defines the word "dramatic."

When we're selling a home, we want it to be striking in appearance. We want it to have an effect on the potential buyers (a good effect!). We want it to stand out from the crowd.

Let's have some DRAMA!

And do you know what one of the synonyms for "dramatic" is? Staged.

Home stagers accentuate a home's features, drawing potential buyers' attention to the home's interesting details and making them memorable. They aim to put the buyers' imaginations to work picturing themselves living in the home. Stagers know what buyers are looking for in a home, and they add touches designed to engage emotions, so that the buyers want to live in this home. They show possibilities. They create beauty. They add drama.

When there is a crowd of houses out there competing for buyers' attention, your home needs some drama to stand out.

For example: This townhome in Casselberry, FL is one of three for sale in its community. All three had the same nondescript off-white formica cabinets, so we decided to make this one "striking in appearance and effect." We had the cabinets painted, and it made a dramatic difference! It's staged.

Laurie - Great job!  I love the color of the cabinets, they really pop off the walls.  What a difference.

Peg - This one is really gratifying, isn't it? Yes, we did recover the stools - even little things help make a big difference. As for the cabinets, we sanded them lightly, painted them with a primer Ben. Moore makes (the name escapes me at the moment), sanded them again, and painted them with two coats of Ben's Aura paint. It worked beautifully. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Debbie - Thanks! We loved the color - it's called Kona (AF-165 from Ben. Moore).

Michele - Thanks for the encouragement!

Wanda - The owners had 4 showings in the first month, and 2 offers, which fell through because of repair issues. The repairs are made, and we all hope foran offer that sticks. Thanks for stopping by!

Melissa - I'd love to be fly on the wall to watch people looking at this home after they've seen its neighbors with the old cabinets. Let's hear it for drama! Thanks for your kind words!

Laurie; Thanks for the info on the paint. Just want to confirm: is the Benjamin Moore paint an acrylic/latex (water base), and not an oil based paint? I'm not familiar with "Aura" paint.

Wow, two offers! Sounds like they'll get more, now that some repairs are completed.

Laurie, Another paint question. Were the cabinets wood or that melamine finish? And I can't believe that is the same kitchen!! Awesome job!

Peg -I'm glad to be of help! Aura is an acrylic paint. It's their latest and greatest paint, and really did work well. Another benefit is that it is low-VOC and you can hardly smell it. The primer was like that, too. We were very impressed.

Liz - The cabinets were formica (is that the same as melamine?), not wood, except for the handles, which are now cream colored. Those were oak. Soooo 80's. Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you liked it!

Hi Laurie!  Good job on the cabinets!!  The color choice is fresh and up-to date....and leaving the 'pull edge' white really added to the overall effect!  Nice work.....Regards-Kathleen G

hi, Laurie:
nicely done!  I don't want to sound like a snob, but the 'new' cabinets totally distracted me from the low-end, small refridgerator.  Itgives the kitchen a look like its in a higher-end loft.  Nicely done.

That's funny Karen!  Are you ready to change all of your marketing materials?

Hi, Kathleen! Is that what the wood part of the cabinets is called: the "pull edge"? We were calling it "the ugly oak trim"! This color really jumped out at us. As soon as we saw it, we knew it was the right one. I'm glad you like it, too!

Karen - I was writing something about "dramatic transformations" and wanted to find another word for dramatic, and when I checked for a synonym, one choice was "staged". Thus a blog was born. I love your new name, LOL! ;-) Thanks for your kind words!

Michael - It's great lifting homes out of sameness, isn't it? Very gratifying. In this case, distracting from the appliances is a very good thing. Thanks for your comment!

Hey Laurie, My listings are all about drama! It makes such a huge difference. They sell much faster and for more money, every time! BTW, those 'formica' cabs w/ the oak/wood strip at the bottom are called euro cabs & were very hot in the 80s.

Gail - Thanks for stopping by! I'm looking forward to meeting you on Saturday!

Marian - Euro cabs, huh? We knew they were from the 80's, and that we had to do something with them to lift the home into this century. Thanks for commenting!
