Another memory from the past and what it does for me today.....

When I was a boy we lived in Syracuse N.Y. (GO ORANGEMEN!!!!) and we had some of the harshest winters known to mankind in those days. Back in the 70s Syracuse was the snowiest (snowyest???) medium sized city in the northeast for that decade........

My dad was in his late 40s back then and wanted to teach us boys some lessons on persistance....... so we shovelled the driveway every time it snowed...which during the winter was almost every day or every other day back then..... now when you first shovel snow you HOPE it is not laden with too much moisture, because the more water is in the snow, the heavier it is......and you really should get to it as soon as it starts to snow or you will be left with a whole LOT of snow to shovel......

So think of how we felt if it started to snow late on a Friday night........and we could not do anything (translated HAVING FUN :-D) till our assigned tasks were done in the house.....be it summer OR winter...... cutting the grass OR shovelling the driveway.....

So bright and early in the morning one or both of us would get up and start to shovel the driveway depending on whos turn it was....BUT we had a plan, my brother and I.......hehehehe....we could make shovelling FUN if we had a reason to do it ~~~~~ and the two sides of the driveway at the end of the stretch of pavement leading to the road were perfect places to pile LOTS and LOTS of snow.......... and our goal????

Igloos....snow forts.......a place to get away from life for a little while and have peace.... we even went to the trouble of getting the hose out and spraying water on the igloos so they would last longer (and be insulated).... that was ok till dad found out what we were doing and put a stop to it (Water costs money ya know....;-D)

What was even more fun was making igloos in the back yard of our house inside our fenced in section of our lot......... we brought our battery operated radios.... flashlights, books, hot chocolate.....blankets to sit on inside......and we even dug little holes through the top of the igloo(s) to bring in fresh air........ it was wonderful to know we had made a "home away from home" for ourselves........and we were just kids...... that is one of the childhood memories I bring with me when I am helping a buyer of real estate........

To know I am helping a first time buyer to get an investment of his/her own.......is very gratifying to me.....

You got me to start reminiscing of backyard igloos and building forts with a hefty supply of snowballs as ammunition. I never really used that approach but maybe I'll try it.

I like the Orangemen Lacrosse team and Basketball team even though I'm down here on Long Island.
