Working with a Realtor is Like DATING ?

By
Industry Observer

I have been known to use the following - told as a sort of joke - to explain the value of BUYER AGENCY...

Do you know how working with a realtor is a lot like dating?

You get more out of the relationship if you go steady!

It sets up a conversation about every time we see a house together, I learn more about what you like and don't like, which helps me do a better job for you.

If you keep calling seller agents, it's like dating around... you don't get much out of the relationship, and no one realtor ever learns enough about you to actually help you succeed with the house hunt! What you end up with is realizing that your number is in a lot of Realtor's little black phone books - and they keep calling you to ask if you are ready to buy a house!

Does that sound good?  No?  I didn't think so...

Ready to go steady and start making real progress toward your dreams?

Lol, love the analogy Lonn and a pretty good way to explain the 'relationship.'

Hi Lonn, When I'm working with Buyers, I let them know if "they cheat on me were done." This usually breaks the ice, but is very effective. :)

great analogy.  I'm using with my clients.  It's perfectly transferable to financing.  Great work Toledo (I grew up in Bowling Green)

Well.... I could make a similar argument in the opposite direction...

Would you sign a marriage certificate (AKA EBA) as a pre-requisite for going out on a date with me?

Jennifer:

Great comment!  I get it.  But how do you keep from wasting your time or getting dumped without asking for loyalty?

At the risk of sounding smug... I just was very responsive and well-prepared and tried to be the buyer's best resource for real estate information. Oh, and almost all of my biz was SOI. I can count on one hand how many buyers "screwed" me in 10 years.

Good analogy!  My only problem with it is that I REALLY enjoyed dating around.  I guess that makes me a hussy!

Oh my gosh... I am going to use that line! Maybe I will find a funny cartoon to go with it so I can use it in my Buyer book! I'll send you a copy if I actually do it LOL
