my attitude has always been to focus on one town and travel no further than an abutting town....and that's how I worked when I was beating the pavement....the closer you focus, the more business you'll have.... and I retired from beating the pavement at 60....

30 minutes circumference is about my territory in San Diego. I created a "Fab 4" alliance with 3 other Realtors here in San Diego back in 2011. We divided San Diego by the 4 quadrants we naturally serve and refer each other clients that dominate that quadrant. We all win; especially the clients!!! Our common thread was Buffini & Company, not our brokerage.

Albuquerque and Rio Rancho NM are so spread out it takes an hour just to drive from one side of town to the other.  

We have gone as far as two states away for large commercial pieces.  Generally, we limit our service areas to 1-3 counties. (40 min.)

I do about a 50 mile radius of my location. 2 hours away is too far away.

Depends on the client but definitely not statewide -- that would require an overnight bag.   

For me NH is a small state, it has distinct small cities all about 20 minutes away from each other. I go up to an hour away listing and selling in those communities i know very well. 

Depends on the price point

I won't show a home that's out of my area of expertise unless the customer insists.  And, in that case, the potential commission must be worth the time.

It takes 30 minutes to drive from one side of Fort Wayne to the other and there are plenty of homes to sell here.  We like to stay local but I've heard of other agents driving over an hour to show homes.  No thanks.  Not these days...

An hour... maybeeeeeeeeee!

It all depends on the scenario. I had a friend who was selling a property outside the city. I told him I coudl refer him out but he can also interview his own Realtors. He came back to me and begged me to list his home as he didn't trust anyone but me. A nice feeling.

Just two weeks ago a friend asked to sell his place. Same distance. He was comfortable with the referral and he sold his place over the weekend. Everyone's happy.

It comes down to the person who I'm helping and their needs.

I will travel 30 minutes but generally when I find myself pushing the envelope further than that, I live to regret it. 

Because every thing is an hour away in Metro Atlanta because of traffic.  I will go an hour from my office.

Well it depends, I will drive anywhere for a million dollar sale, from one end of Florida to the other, the same for a commercial property , hotel, motel or resort. The furthest I have gone is to North Carolina. I would also liason as a advisor in any state for a VIP client with a Realtor from that area. Think big, do big, big things happen!

I always take care of my client and in return they take care of me. It's not uncommon for me to drive a few hours away or even out of state to make sure my clients are overly-satisfied.

I sell mostly sight unseen so I don't drive. If someone want s to see something I have two agents that do this.

It depends on the client and the price.  I am only registered in Texas, I prefer to stay closer to my office but will travel in certain circumstances.

Sometimes it will take about 30 minutes from the office without leaving the county.  I have shown property that was over an hour away but it was beach front condos in a very confined area and at a considerable price range. 

30-40 minuets for me. Further for luxury properties or commercial deals. I'd be impressed if any agents works state wide without a team.

For friends and family, I have traveled as far away as 45 minutes.  For other clients, I'd refer everything out of my 2 local cities... separated only by a river.

30 minutes in the DC market can be still in the city! I will go to Baltimore and Annapolis which are an hour away because I know the markets - but not that far south into Virginia

The distance to travel depends on the circumstances. In our area, you could be in one of four other states within a one hour drive.

I would recommend a referral for those who are not familiar with the local market.

I will drive up to an hour for a motviated buyer.

Because of our area an hour or so is not uncommon.

Rural land could be two hours.

It depends. I generally do not go out of the county but do make exceptions for family or long time clients. I generally will not go beyond an hour regardless.

One hour away, and within my MLS coverage area. Garmin certainly makes it tempting to see no boundaries.

I have been known to drive an hour away.

I only sell where I know.

Typically I will go as far as an hour, I try to stay within the 40 minute drive. It will also depends on how ready is the buyer and the price range. Last year I had a customer that wanted to see homes an hour and a half from me, but she was also traveling six hours. It took just four different trips and we were under contract. I showed a total of ten homes and I only showed the homes she wanted.

I know my own area and will refer when showings are  out of my comfort zone.

Hank - Staying within the Northern Virginia market, I am willing to go about 45-50 minutes away from the office... which on some days isn't that far!  Generally speaking, I am staying within the close-in municipalities in my area, with a longer foray outside of the main commuting periods.

Hank - If it is clients I am friends with, or a referral, and they have asked me to work with them, I will travel up to an hour to find them the right home. However, there are so, so, many homes in different price points in my area, if I don't know the client, I will only travel maybe up to 30 minutes away.
