activerain: "It's got a great beat and you can dance to it." - 02/03/08 04:19 AM
Dick Clark... American Bandstand...  If you are too young to remember American Bandstand... this may not make a lot of sense...
<------ and that black thing is a record.
American Bandstand ran from the 1950s through the 1980's.
Rate-A-Record
After the teens danced to a record on the American Bandstand TV show Dick Clark would interview a couple of teens about what they thought of the song...   The teens often said  "It's got a great beat and you can dance to it." Or that's how many remember Rate-A-Record anyway...

activerain: "Why would a real estate agent pay for a blog?" - 01/31/08 08:30 PM
For those loyal souls who are waiting for an ActiveRain "outside" blog here's a question for you....
Why would a real estate agent pay for a blog?
Frances Flynn Thorsen asked that question on her RealTown Report blog and got a response or two from Jim Duncan of RealCentralVA.com.  Hector Virgen with RealTown  also commented on Frances "Why would a real estate agent pay for a blog?"   Disclaimer:  I have a RealTown Blog... it's been around since late August 2005, Discover Columbus (it's old and ugly... be nice.)
I understand the ActiveRain "outside" blogs will be priced at about … (40 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain - Same Old Lang Syne... - 12/30/07 12:04 AM

"the snow turned into rain..."

ActiveRain is a thing and as much you you sometimes want things to stay the same... things change...
I miss... Kristal Kraft being active in the Rain. Kristal was the first one who ever commented on my ActiveRain blog. She was followed momentarily by Maureen Francis whom I'd invited to ActiveRain. I miss MF on ActiveRain for much more than the points I got from her participation.
I miss Leanne Paynter reluctantly participating in ActiveRain. It was like pulling teeth to get Leanne to join.
I miss the Minnesota … (44 comments)

activerain: "Zillow to buy ActiveRain" - 10/31/07 10:55 PM
Oh those silly Sellsius Guys! They got Halloween mixed up with April 1st... Didn't they? Trick or Treat : Zillow to buy Active Rain.
Hot dog! The guys from Zillow, David, Drew, Rich, Lloyd, Spencer each got a sheet to Trick or Treat on Sellsius Blog. Why didn't Sara Bonert of Zillow get a sheet? Sara's been blogging on ActiveRain all along. Drew's a member, David G. used to blog on Active Rain... lots of Zillow folks are ActiveRain members.
Spencer Rascoff blogging on ActiveRain is what seems to have spurred the Sellsius Real Estate Blog to start this tongue in … (39 comments)

activerain: RealTownBlogs.com vs. ActiveRain.com - 09/06/07 08:52 PM

Above are ActiveRain members who also blog on RealTownBlogs, these are their RealTownBlogs.com blogs. Other ActiveRain members including Jeff Dowler, Carole Cohen, Monika McGillicuddy, Ann Cumming have or have had blogs on RealTownblogs too.  Lenn Harley tried RealTownblogs.com loooooong ago.
I have a RealTownBlog.com blog Disover Columbus.  I don't get much traffic on it.
Is Frances Flynn Thorson, the managing editor of RealTown biased? In an interview with Todd Carpenter of REMBEX Blog Fiesta in reply to the question "How does RealTown differ from Active Rain?" Frances said:
"RealTown is an altogether different venue than ActiveRain. ActiveRain is a relatively young blogging community populated by real estate pros. … (65 comments)

activerain: Can you Twitter if you are paranoid? - 08/15/07 07:35 AM
I found  Twitter from someone's recommendation on ActiveRain.
I am not sure whose.  I kind of remember it as Jeff Turner...
I never understood Twitter but I have been a member since March. I update it every few weeks whether I need to or not. That shows I am not using Twitter right.  I just noticed you can say if you are at home, at work... somehow that bothers me but then again I am paranoid.
Marc Davison of  1000watt Consulting spoke at our company (Real Living HER)  meeting yesterday.  Davison recommended Twitter. His explanation made Twitter a bit clearer than it had been.
None of my friends Twitter.  Most of my friends … (46 comments)

activerain: Which real estate blogger is an "Expert" in USA Weekend Magazine? - 08/04/07 01:03 AM
In the USA Weekend Magazine front cover story  "DO YOUR HOME WORK,  Experts reveal how you can find bright spots in today's grim market."  a blogger many know from ActiveRain and her excellent local real estate blog did a double feature as a real estate expert.
Who? Maureen Francis!
The article covered Five 'brutal" Realities of selling in the current market.
In Reality 2 "American's have overdosed on home equity borrowing"  Walecia Konrad, MoneySmart contributing editor shares  the word Maureen  coined for when owners have to rent their homes, while selling them "Sell-Lord."   A sanitized version of Maureen's story of the nervous Great Dane at a Sell-Lord's property is also included.  I prefer the earthier version … (16 comments)

activerain: ColumbusBestBlog.com's Science Experiment Saturday - 07/28/07 02:12 AM

It's Science Experiment Saturday on my other blog.
That's a  drawing of a flea  magnified many times if you were wondering.  It was drawn by Robert Hooke long, long ago when magnifying fleas was science.  It was so long ago the copyright on Hooke's flea is expired according to Wikipedia.
Joan Whitebook's  story of fleas in a home she showed  THERE AIN'T NO BUGS ON ME  is guaranteed to make you itch all over!
A link to Joan's story and Jo-Anne Smith's comment on a way to get rid of fleas without harsh chemicals made it's way to my blog which is celebrating Science … (20 comments)

Blog Tour USA is in Idaho today.
Where?  Contact the guys and find out where and when you can meet them.
Blog Tour USA says  "Call us at 646-714-2720"
For a good time call...Blog Tour USA.  They may post on their site sometime today where they will be and when.
Boise ActiveRainers (Ada County, Canyon County) - are there other counties?
I know Idaho is so much more than potatoes but I could not resist this photo... The way the melting butter matches the ActiveRain page....The potato photo makes my mouth water just to look at the spud.   Does anyone have any sour cream? Chives?

activerain: BlogTour USA - Candace's Question in Columbus - 07/15/07 08:40 PM
BlogTour USA was in Columbus on Friday.  Joe and Rudy talked to a group of some "blog curious" Central Ohio people... mostly real estate agents, many affiliated with Real Living HER.
I was not there for Candace's question during Joe and Rudy's question and answer period.  I was sequestered in a work room doing a "live blog."  My boss wanted me to write a blog entry  in front of the group gathered in Columbus for BlogTour USA but I get so nervous... I could not have typed in front of all those people...
Later in a bar... (Amano's Worthington... I just drank water... really.)  Joe and … (11 comments)

activerain: For a good time call... BlogTour USA - 07/12/07 03:30 AM

The BlogTour USA blog says  "Call us at 646-714-2720".
When they are approaching a city the BlogTour USA site  may say something like:
"We are ahead of schedule and will be in Orlando this evening.
Any bloggers (real estate or not) are welcome to meet-up with us for drinks and hijinks.
Call us at 646-714-2720".
That's how Joe and Rudy of BlogTour USA and Sellsius° Real Estate Blog met up with Colleen in Orlando last Friday.
There is a new Blog Tour USA group on ActiveRain.  Colleen (she does not need a last name on ActiveRain) started it and then delegated moderating to me.   How do you do that? … (23 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain is like a toaster... - 07/07/07 06:32 AM
Baby Boomers blogging?
In Inman News Bernice Ross wrote of blog resistance:
"The challenge may be insurmountable for many agents. According to Ann Randolph of Lore Magazine, when baby boomers purchase technology they have an expectation that you plug it in and it's supposed to work. Until the advent of computers, every electronic gadget we owned worked simply by plugging it in and turning it on. No manual required. This expectation is part of boomer DNA just as much as computers and social networks are part of the Gen X and Gen Y culture. User manuals are typically incomprehensible and offshore … (48 comments)

activerain: Omphaloskepsis - 07/05/07 03:11 AM
No Omphaloskepsis is not one of the new ActiveRain "what does the graphic say" words you get when you post a comment here.
Is there a rhyme or reason to those words?  Increasing the vocabularies of the real estate industry through CAPTCHA?  Remember when you only had to know how to spell ORANGE, CANTALOUPE, POMEGRANATE and the like?
"Omphaloskepsis: is the name of Tina, a Columbus blogger's second blog, her personal blog. Omphaloskepsis is subtitled "It's all about me."  I know Tina the Columbus blogger from her Green Buckeye Blog, which is not all about Tina.

activerain: cutting down on pie charts - 05/09/07 11:45 PM

I had a business cartoon on my Discover Columbus Blog recently, an "Andertoon"  by Mark Anderson.
In the Andertoon there's a business meeting going on, there are bar graphs being projected onto a screen in a power point presentation.  The caption reads "Finally, to help those of us counting carbs we've moved to bar graphs instead of pie charts."
Top third from the left?  Maybe you had to be there.
Maybe you have to be a fan of charts and graphs to think it is funny. Not a fan of graphs, pie charts? Move along, there's plenty to read on Active Rain.
I love pie charts.  I like bar graphs too.  … (19 comments)

activerain: Columbus Ohio, it's a matter of style - 05/09/07 01:21 AM
I have cartoons on my Discover Columbus blog.  Andertoons Business Cartoons and BLaugh.
Why do I have cartoons on Discover Columbus?  Because Columbus Ohio is kinda cartoony.  Humorist James Thurber was born and raised in Columbus and went on to become well known writing and drawing cartoons for The New Yorker.   Ohio State University has a Comics Library    I also have a couple of Columbus cartoonists blogs on my Columbus Blog Roll on Discover Columbus and ColumbusBestBlog.com  I use "comic sans" as my font on Discover Columbus.  I wrote on that blog once about how cartoony Columbus real real estate can be.
Mischief happens in real estate sometimes...  Fun and games?  Real … (5 comments)
