The 4th Friday of September in California is Native American Day. In honor of this day, and the Native People, "Indian Week was celebrated around the State." Over this week-end the 18th Annual Thunder and Lightning Pow Wow was held on the Morongo Reservation. In Banning there was also a nice exhibit at the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center on San Gorgonio. My family and I went to the new Center, and behind it there was an exhibit with a Kish set up.
Unfortunately we didn't get there early enough to participate in the flute making, but next year (11 comments)
morongo indian reservation: Cabazon: Sitting in the Shadows of the Morongo Indian Reservation

Cabazon, CA is an interesting little town. It's not a city, and only has one little store, a Post Office, and the Am/PM Gas Station at the Main Street exit. That's on the South Side of the Freeway....the side where locals think of Cabazon as Cabazon. For years Cabazon was just a small little town off the I-10 Freeway between Banning and Palm Springs. It was best known for the big Dinosaur on the North Side of the Freeway. That Dinosaur was made famous in a few movies, including a Pee Wee Herman one. That was Cabazon to most people.
