If there is anything we learned in recent months is that life is changing. Whatever the reason or the season the natural environment is a good source to build hope.
On the 11th day of March, 2020, I walked on the grounds of the University of Dallas. I stood beneath the Bell Tower, looking up at the clouds and trees. Consistent with the quality of a hopeful heart, I longed for spring to splash pastel colors all over Texas. I popped into the Library at the University of Dallas after a lecture I attended and was surprised to learn they celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday because the National Education Association wanted a day to celebrate reading to encourage children to Read Across America, established on March 2, 1998, to coincide with the birthday of Dr. Seuss born in 1904. Today he would be 114 years old!
I picked up some books from my Flower Mound Library using my Library Card and I'll be reading some books in honor (40 comments)
What do you do on a Memorial Day weekend? There are memorial services, parades, and celebrations. Many family and friends get together. Whether it is a big community gathering, a party, or just a private affair, it is a day of remembrance. How you celebrate, is up to you. As for me, I'll stand around the big old oak tree with its gnarled branches, reflecting on the tree of life. What better way to start my March 31 Day Challenge on ActiveRain than to let people know that our own beloved Dr. Seuss will celebrate his birthday tomorrow on March 2.
Dr. Seuss was a very important member of my family. When my daughter left for college, she didn't know I wrapped up the book, Oh, THE PLACES YOU WILL GO in her suitcase. It was an emotional experience for both of us and I still remember how excited she was to find it when she unpacked her clothes. She called me immediately and we cried and talked for hours.
