turkey: How Long is that Turkey Going To Last? - 11/24/23 09:17 AM
Carol purchased the smallest whole turkey she could find so I'm pretty sure we won't be eating it all the way to Easter unless she freezes some of it for later consumption.
The picture above is not ours. I found it on the web and it is NOT copyrighted.
At lunch today we did enjoy cold turkey sandwiches and I am looking forward to a hardy soup made with the remainder of the bird, after that I hope NOT to see turkey for a year.

turkey: How BIG Is The Oven? - 01/26/22 05:35 AM
While reading "NORTH DAKOTA LIVING", a publication put out by local cooperatives I came across this article:
The Dave Muehler family (Dave, Wanda, and adult son Matt) raise 40 pound turkeys! WOW, how big is your oven and how many people will be sitting around your dining table?
The Muehlers produce 80,000 of those 40 pound turkeys a year and sell them all to Jennie-O in Willmar MN. None of these birds end up as Thanksgiving diners... Jennie-O uses them manufacturing products such as turkey ham, bologna, salami, pastrami, bacon, breakfast sausage and hot dogs.

turkey: Friday Fun, Turkey Tree - 04/06/18 06:05 AM

It's April 6th 2018 on my way to work, 7:00 AM, and it's -1 degrees out.
As I'm speeding towards work I notice a tree in the distance with an unusual number of squirrel nests in it.... or were those squirrel nests???
Nope... turkeys!
I see this every once in a while but not often enough to be used to it.
If you are not familiar with wild turkeys you need to know they are a BIG bird. It still amazes me that they can even fly, much less land in a tree so this is always a fun and amazing site for me.

turkey: Hey Turkey! - 03/01/16 09:52 AM

HEY TURKEY!
Late yesterday afternoon my Bride and I were headed home from Walmart and as we drove by a very familiar spot both of us took notice. This spot is only about 6 blocks from our home and along one of Minot's many coulees. We both thought that in the last day or two a VERY industrious squirrel had built a multi-squirrel condominium complex. Hey! With the oil boom we have seen some crazy building trends and we thought maybe it caught on with the squirrels too.
Upon closer inspection this is what I saw.
There were 10 of them.
