I had a nice conversation this morning with Kevin Clark at First American Title in Kingwood. This is an enjoyable place for a closing since everyone there is helpful & pleasant. And they are dedicated to making closings move along smoothly. Kevin & I were talking about kids & school experiences. We reminisced about Kindergarten & could both remember our Kindergarten teacher's name. As we continued the trip down memory lane, we agreed that teachers really can make an impression on our lives.
One thing Kevin shared with me was a statement that has stuck with him through the years. It seems that his fifth grade science teacher said, "No students ever come back to thank me." This particular teacher was well-liked & respected, so that statement really resonated with Kevin. He knew this particular teacher had made an impact on him & was sure that others felt the same way, so he was surprised at the statement. Surely this teacher knew his value as a educator. As Kevin went on to college on a baseball scholarship, he told himself that he wouldn't forget this teacher's influence on his life. And when he graduated, Kevin did indeed return to thank this teacher. He enjoyed sharing his accomplishments with the teacher & thanked him for the part he played in the journey.
It also turned out that another student from the same class had come back to say thanks. Another bit of proof that what a teacher says can make a difference. And saying thanks is a great way to acknowledge the help you've received along the way. With that said, isn't there a teacher in your life, whether for yourself, your kids or grandkids that would benefit from knowing they are appreciated for a job well-done?
