Thank a Teacher / Susan Brown, Your Texas Connection, Keller Williams Realty

I had a nice conversation this morning with Kevin Clark at First American Title in Kingwood.  This is an enjoyable place for a closing since everyone there is helpful & pleasant.  And they are dedicated to making closings move along smoothly.  Kevin & I were talking about kids & school experiences.  We reminisced about Kindergarten & could both remember our Kindergarten teacher's name.  As weKevin Clark, First American Title in Kingwood continued the trip down memory lane, we agreed that teachers really can make an impression on our lives.

One thing Kevin shared with me was a statement that has stuck with him through the years.  It seems that his fifth grade science teacher said, "No students ever come back to thank me."
This particular teacher was well-liked & respected, so that statement
really resonated with Kevin.  He knew this particular teacher had made an impact on him & was sure that others felt the same way, so he was surprised at the statement.  Surely this teacher knew his value as a educator.  As Kevin went on to college on a baseball scholarship, he told himself that he wouldn't forget this teacher's influence on his life.  And when he graduated, Kevin did indeed return to thank this teacher. He enjoyed sharing his accomplishments with the teacher & thanked him for the part he played in the journey.

It also turned out that another student from the same class had come back to say thanks.  Another bit of proof that what a teacher says can make a difference.  And saying thanks is a great way to acknowledge the help you've received along the way.  With that said, isn't there a teacher in your life, whether for yourself, your kids or grandkids that would benefit from knowing they are appreciated for a job well-done?

Great post Susan...it's nice to hear that some folks are remembering to say thank you. I think we could all benefit from that in many areas of life...a simple thank you can go a long way.

Susan, I know that my children had teachers that made a difference.  I for the most part did not but I did have a very nice Chemistry teacher who should have flunked me and did not (lol).

Susan:  What a great story.  I am a "former teacher"... if there IS such a thing... and will tell you that it really is such a great thing when my students come back and share with me what an impression I made on then, and how much having me as a teacher meant to them.  It feels great !

So folks... I agree with this post.  If you have a teacher in your past to meant a lot to you... make it a point to go back and TALK to them... if you can.  And try to do it... before it is too late.  If you know what I mean.

Karen Anne - I've heard from several teachers I know that share your feelings on the enjoyment they felt when a student returned to share their experiences.

Susan, this is a great post and I think it goes beyond teachers to being thankful and actually thnking the people who have impacted your life in a good way. We are all ready to tell off the people who hurt us, but we don't say thanks to the people who help us.

Susan, a few years ago, and old high school friend and I decided to track down our old orchestra teacher, who had inspired both of us to become professional musicians.  We called him at his retirement home in Chicago, and his wife answered.  She told us he had died two weeks earlier, and my friend and I spent the next couple of hours on the phone sharing our favorite Mr. Hallman stories with her.  And shamefully, that is as close as I've ever gotten to thanking a teacher.

Hi again Susan:  I just wanted to thank you again for such a great post.  Being a former teacher, I was inspired by what you wrote... and wrote a post in which I mentioned you, and linked to both you and your post... and to Ross and his nice comment as well.  Here is a link to that post I just wrote.  I am guessing that reading it will also send some folks over here to read your post as well.  Helping Others, Frozen Chickens, and Mother's Day... .

Have a great weekend.

Ross - You are so right.  We are always quick to jump with something goes awry but that thanks gets lost in the shuffle.

Pat - Those moments you spend with Mr. Hallman's wife probably did her a world of good.  And don't you think Mr. Hallman would've loved the kindness for his wife.

KarenAnne - Love your post!  Thanks for including me.  And I think I may take your post one step further too...I have some more ideas!
