One of the best things about your Mission Valley condo is that it is centrally located, making it easy to get out and about to do all the things that beautiful San Diego has to offer. At this time of year, a simple drive (even with $4.30 a gallon gasoline) around San Diego freeways can be a very enjoyable event for the family because San Diego streets and highways are bursting with color! Today I will be your guide in getting to some of the more spectacular displays. These are all sun-loving plants, and the flowers are fully open only in the sunshing, so go on a sunny day! Let's start at Mission Bay Park, right next door to Mission Valley. Head west on Interstate 8 and take the West Mission Bay Drive exit. Go north past SeaWorld Drive and stay in the right lane because there's a big circle that will keep you on West Mission Bay Drive. If you stay left, you'll go to Ingraham Street, and that's not where we want to go. It's that circle (see red arrow) to stay on West Mission Bay Drive that you want to see: You won't be able to stop and take pictures, so you'll just have to go round and round to enjoy the view, or go before 10:00 a.m. when SeaWorld hasn't opened yet, cautiously slow down, and take a picture through a dirty window like I did. Find a place to park along the San Diego River and walk along the river (blue arrows) to see a spectacular yellow river bank: Now let's head south on Interstate 5 to Route 94 east, where, just after the Euclid Street exit and going almost all the way to College Avenue, is a long hillside on the left side of the freeway that you want to see: Continue on Route 94 all the way to Route 125, and take it heading north. Just past the Grossmont College exit and heading down into Santee, there is a beautiful stretch of pink and purple ice plant on the right side of the road: Keep going down to the new Route 52/Route 125 intersection and take Route 52 heading west. If you have time, take Route 52 all the way into La Jolla and just enjoy all the beautiful flowers that grow there. While you're driving, keep your eye open for homes at the top of hillsides, where you can often find something like this: And while you're in La Jolla, well, stop by and say hello to our harbor seal rookery at the La Jolla Cove children's pool: From La Jolla you can head back south on Interstate 5 to your Mission Valley condo, and since you'll be tired, hungry, and thirsty, I can highly recommend the Mexican food and drinks at On The Border Mission Valley: ♪♫♫♫♪ If you're looking for a great real estate agent in San Diego, well, I'm available 24/7, so feel free to contact me by phone or email. Jim,
There's so much to enjoy in Mission Valley during the spring.
Enjoy,
Steve
Jim - That's it...after reading Russel's post that mentioned On the Border and now seeing a picture I'm definitely going there for lunch.
Jim - Well I guess we know why California is called the Golden State ... but it's great to add diversity with other colors as well! And end it at a cantina! Now, that's .... San Diego!
As Always Jim, you capture great photos of your area ~ and the tour is fun to see!
Jim, that area looks lovely. I'll have to take some photos of Kentucky and show them off. There are purple and yellow and white trees in bloom everywhere. I'll have to wait for some sunshine, though! Thanks for posting them.
Jim, Great post! The colors are certainly nice and bright! Thanks for sharing these beautiful, yet often overlooked areas with us!
There's nothing like a nice big swath of color on the side of the road to brighten up someone's day. of course, On the Border tacos aren't bad either.
Jim, Cool pictures. It is amazing how you can get some good shots while driving - even without stopping. Here's one I took of the mountains while Will was driving and I was shooting through the side window.

San Diego's common place areas are just as beautiful as the extravagant due in part to the climate that the plants love so much, not to mention the people. And I see you added your favorite splash of color....On The Border!!! :)
