Confluence Park in the Fall...Delta, Colorado. Anytime is a good time to take a walk through Confluence Park, but there's something magical about the fall, and there's still time to enjoy the beautiful fall colors.
There's about five miles of trails through the park. You can take a leisurely stroll or go for a workout. A lot of wildlife can be spotted in the park. This is a wooded oasis in the city limits. A lot of the trails follow the river through the woods and some of them circle the lake.
On the day I was there, a storm was trying to come in. It made for some great lighting effects and this wonderful reflection picture.
Confluence Lake takes up about 60 acres of the 265 acre park. It's stocked with trout during the summer season, and other species of fish get in from the nearby rivers. It's called Confluence Park because this is where the Gunnison River meets the Uncompahgre River. Other park amenities include picnic areas, fenced dog fields, public restrooms, a skate park and baseball fields. Non motorized boats are allowed on the lake and the boat ramp is on the northeast side of the lake.
The Grand Mesa is the prominent fixture on Delta Colorado's skyline. Delta, has a lot to offer for a small town. There are many wonderful dining and shopping options, and things to do. Main Street has some wonderfully unique shops with buildings that date back 100 years. The area's slogan is canyons, rivers, mountains. Delta and the surrounding area has all three of these features.
Within about a 30 minute drive, or less...you can experience a wide range of outdoor activities. Hiking, fishing, biking, photography, hunting, rafting, downhill and cross country skiing are all popular activities right in Delta's backyard.
I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 22 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home.
