A hike to Indian Rock in Yosemite National Park

Real estate is keeping us hopping in the San Francisco Bay Area, but when life is as busy as this, it's vital to find a way to refresh and recharge.

Indian Rock, Yosemite National Park

One of my favorite ways to re-energize is to get outdoors and hike.

This week my husband and I took two days, and made a quick trip to the High Sierras in Yosemite National Park. En route to Tuolumne Meadows, we stopped at the Porcupine Creek trailhead on Highway 120, where I enjoyed a 6 or 7 mile round trip hike to Indian Rock.

Come take a look, and see if this might be a jaunt you'd enjoy.

Good morning Lottie. I took my two daughters on this hike a number of years ago, what an experience. The view is beyond belief.

Good morning, Joe. Yes, that hike is wonderful. One can continue on just a couple of miles to North Dome, where one looks down into Yosemite Valley itself, but Indian Rock makes a good destination in and of itself when time is short. I'm glad you've had that experience with your daughters.

Hi Lou - Yosemite is a fabulous place to refresh (if not relax!) Thanks for your continued good wishes.

Joan - have you visited Yosemite yet? Next San Francisco trip perhaps should include a couple of days  there.

Michael Thornton - after you visit San Francisco and hike our hills and through our parks, you can head to Yosemite and keep on hiking!

Whitney Watson - I'm glad this video still plays. The hike to Indian Rock is quite short, not difficult at all, and the views are spectacular.

Indian Rock is in the high country, above the more famous Yosemite Valley Bob Crane. Both areas are spectacular, each in its own way.

Beautiful.  Makes me think of a wonderful stop we had at Arches National Park last year

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 - I'm honored to be included in your Travellers in the Rain. That jaunt out to Indian Rock was the last time I was in Yosemite - I should rectify that, and soon! Happy trails to you.

Hi Tammy Lankford, yes, that arch does remind one of Arches National Monument -- temperatures in Yosemite are a bit more mellow, though. I bet you have grand memories.

We were there in November Lottie and it was in the 40s and wonderful for the long hike we took.  Got some great photos and enjoyed it so much. In fact we bought my mom a jigsaw puzzle and she just did it last week.

Tammy, that sounds wonderful. My only trip to Arches was in June one year, and it was sizzling hot. We decided to forego camping at Arches, and headed to Green River (I think that was the name of the town) and got an air-conditioned hotel room, with a POOL! My girls were in heaven.

Ed Silva - I suggest spending a day or two in the Valley (very crowded, but iconic) and then head up to the high country along Highway 120. Trailhead for Indian Rock Arch is along that road.

Hi Lottie Kendall ... I like the video! I never made it to the High Sierras in Yosemite National Park but I did drive through Yosemite Valley several years ago. Would love to vist there. Even just driving through the valley it was beautiful! You are so right, taking a hike is a great way to get a little R & R!

Hi Rene Fabre - there are so many beautiful areas of the country -- and the world! I'm glad you enjoyed my little video snippet of Indian Rock Arch.
