Throwback Thursdays...Up to Our You-Know-What in Alligators.
This week I’ve set aside some time to go through some of my photo folders in an effort to reorganize my photos so I can find them and delete those I no longer want or need.
This week, look out Barbara Todaro, look at what I found...
If you think gators are scary, gators on all fours are frightening
When I saw this I didn’t just think of Barbara but also the saying about being up to our behinds in alligators.
I’ve never given it that much thought in terms of its real or original meaning. Typically I took it to mean someone was having all sorts of problems and issues being thrown at them all at once.
However, I was doing some reading and learned that the complete phrase is- When you’re up to your ass in alligators, it’s easy to forget you came to drain the swamp.
Before you read on, if you still are, this is in no way a political post. You can make it one if you choose but you would be wrong.
What I take it to mean is that when you’re embarking on a project or problem, know what you’re getting into. Do the research, Once you have done this, ask yourself if this is still something you need to or want to tackle. Be prepared for the alligators that may pop up and don't lose sight of the goal.
Everybody, soon or late, sits down to a banquet of consequences. Robert Louis Stevenson
