Looks like Austin Texs is in the news again.  This time in Forbes magazine talking about the job growth of Texas and how Austin is looking really good.  This job growth helps to keep the real estate market strong and moving forward.  For that matter most of Texas is doing well.  Why do you think everyone from California, Las vegas, and Miami are moving here.

2007 total sales volume exceeded 2006 by over $14,000,000. Every month of the year 2007 surpassed 2006 monthly dollar volumes. Looks like unit sales ended the year 5.5% off of 2006 levels. Some more good news is that the 2007 inventory absorption rates was the second best in eight years and home appreciation rates were strong across the whole city. 
Many of Austin's MLS areas showed a nice appreciation rate.  Some area's were well over 10% and several much higher. In 2007 the average home sold for $17,062 more than last year briniging the 2006's average sales price of $229,900 to just over $246,000 in 2007.  Just think that is … (15 comments)

I have to admit, I have not gave blood in awhile, but I am going to start.  I couldn't before because I was in Desert Storm/shield.   Now I have no excuse.   I was looking more into it and I found that during the winter months there is usually a shortage of blood so January is Volunteer Blood Donor Month.

2008 tax season delays. - 01/06/08 12:45 PM
Well if you like to file you taxes early this year it looks like you are going to have to wait. 
Recent changes by congress will put the kibash on that.  Almost 20 million people will be affected.  Wow!  that is a lot of people.   I am still doing my taxes early this year.  I guess I can wait a few weeks longs.
They are hoping that this delay will not pass onto people who do there taxes later. 
The delay is being caused by the AMT laws.  Congress put a patch in place to  adjusts the AMT exemption amounts so that fewer taxpayers … (4 comments)

The GreenChoice charge of 5.5 cents per kWh is fixed until December 31, 2022. It replaces Austin Energy's fuel charge of 3.65 cents per kWh. The average residential customer consuming about 1,000 kWh per month will pay about $18.50 more per month for GreenChoice power

Austin is issuing the first electric vehicle rebates - 01/02/08 06:57 PM
In April of 07 Austin Energy and the Central Texas Clean Cities started to offer a rebate to help customers who purchase all electric vehicles.  
These include cars, bicycles and scooters.  My friend took advantage of the program and saved about $100 bucks on a brand new scooter.
If you buy an all electric vehicle you get $250 bucks back and on a bike you get $50. 
You can go to www.cityofaustin.org/cleancities to get an application and find out more.

Homestead expemtion time is coming up for Texas residents. - 01/01/08 04:59 PM
Who qualifies for a homestead exemption.  Anyone who owns a home on January 1st and uses that residence as their primary home.  This entitles the owner to a $15,000 exemption to lower school taxes this year.  You can either own a home, condo or mobile home. 
If you own your home you have to file after January 1st and before April 30th.  Do not apply before or after these dates as they will not be accepted and you application will be thrown away.  I listed the link below to follow to apply for your homestead.
