Wow, how this year has been flying by. The schedule has been released at Bellingham Technical College and it has been announced that the next home inspection training course will begin on February 6, 2012. The BTC offering, the first such course to be approved in the state when state licensing began, is a fast-track class. Students receive three weeks of fundamentals of home inspection training and one week of field training. The next Washington state approved home inspector training course begins on October 17, 2011, at Bellingham Technical College. And it does not start a day too early, it seems that many of the instructors, myself included, will be taking some vacation prior to the start of the class. One has to take advantage of this brief period of warm weather that has developed over the last couple of weeks. Bellingham Technical College offers a fast-track home inspector training course. The last home inspector training course for they year 2011, will be conducted at Bellingham Technical College beginning on October 17. The BTC course, one of the longest running in the state, is state approved by the department of licensing. Students receive 120 hours of fundamentals of home inspection training and 40 hours of field training. The prospective home inspector, who completes the course, is ready to take the state licensing exam and work in the field of home inspection. The next Fundamentals of Home Inspection course, and the accompanying field training, begins on campus at Bellingham Technical College on Monday, July 11, 2011. This summer class will include a more relaxed atmosphere on campus since fewer regular classes will be in session during the summer months. The Bellingham Technical College home inspection training course includes 40 hours of supervised field training. Often, potential students will ask how many students will be out on the field training. They envision a mob of people all fighting to see under the kitchen sink. In fact, we keep the groups small and, if need be, we divide into two groups with two different field training instructors. The next Fundamentals of Home Inspection course, and the accompanying field training, will begin at Bellingham Technical College on Monday, July 11, 2011. There will only be one more such class at BTC this calender year so anyone interested should take advantage of the more relaxed atmosphere on campus during the summer months. An important aspect of obtaining a home inspector license in the State of Washington involves completing not only 120 hours of fundamentals training -- structure, roofs, electric, Hvac, plumbing -- but also 40 hours of field training. The fundamentals training must be completed at an approved school. The field training may be done with a licensed inspector. For practical purposes, most of the students who take their training at Bellingham Technical College, choose to complete both courses during the same four week period of time. We are taking a bit of a hiatus from the home inspector training classes. The next home inspection training, and field training course, will be offered at Bellingham Technical College beginning on July 11, 2011. The BTC inspection course, the first course to receive state accreditation when licensing began more than two years ago, includes three weeks of Fundamentals of Home Inspection Training, 120-hours, and 40-hours of field training. We will, in 2011, only have one other course offering this year. That will be, again, the fundamentals and the field training, and those courses will start on October 17, 2011.
