Here's a quick report of the real estate market activity in my part of the island, Haiku. It covers a large area and there is so much diversity that it's really hard to make any comparisons, but if you follow the market you might find some interesting bits. At this point, it looks like sales volume is up from last year, and maybe even prices are up. Obviously there is a lot of inventory of large parcels and expensive parcels. A quick real estate market update for the Haiku region on Maui's north shore...
January 2017 through May 2017 numbers:
The Haiku Maui housing market is looking strong compared to last year at this time. The year to date statistics show an increase in the number of sales, from 28 homes to 31 homes sold January through May. The total dollar volume of sales is also up 18% over the last 12 months. Median sales price dropped from $742,500 to $725,000.

What was the real estate market doing in 2016 when it comes to vacant land on Maui's north shore? There were plenty of great listings to choose from, and the number of sales stayed pretty stable compared to last year, but dollar amount was way up. This Maui market update will explain recent sales activity and pricing.

What a delight to see this Haiku Maui property with so many tropical flowers and plants - orhids, bromeliads, anthuriums, gingers, palm trees, bamboos and more. It's amazing how much variety you can grow on just 2 acres. The warm humid climate in Haiku is very conducive to the lush growth of all manner of plants. Some love the shade and others love full sunlight, so try a bit of both.

It was a beautiful sunny day on Saturday for the annual event that brings out the whole Haiku community.
It keeps getting bigger each year and it was nice to see many more restaurants participating with lots of food trucks. The variety of flowers and plants is amazing.
A lot of things are put together by the kids at Haiku Elementary School which is just next door.
I came for the food and to take pictures, and of course, talk story with old friends.

So you want to move to Haiku Maui HI - Here are some good things to think about when getting started. Of course there is so much more to know before you come here to Maui, so doing your own research is essential. Haiku is mostly an agricultural area, with many small and large farms, and 2 acre AG subdivisions. Along the north coast of Maui are some spectacular homes and lots that appeal to the windsurfing crowd. Pauwela, Peahi, Honopou, Huelo - these are all areas within the Haiku district. HAIKU is not just a style of descriptive poetry, it's a country town on Maui, at the corner of Haiku Road and Kokomo Road. Here at the Post office for zip code 96708, you can get personal service, and they'll remember your name. There is a town center (which I will describe in this blog), and a diverse outlying area as well. In the plantation days, this was the center of a thriving pineapple industry, with 2 large pineapple canneries.
