A hark back to days long gone by now, when sugar cane dominated the landscape and there was a railroad on Maui. It's a nice painting on the side of an old building in the little seaside town of Paia. Paia was once a busy hub of industry, with a sugar mill and a large population of workers. That's Haleakala - House of the Sun - in the background.

Besides being thankful for the November Thanksgiving Challenge by Debbie Reynolds, I am thankful for many things at this time of year as I reflect back. Having the ability to make a good living, while doing something I enjoy, is a real blessing. Not everyone can say they love their jobs, but I can.

Everybody wants to live close to the beaches and not too far from Costco and the airport too. With limited new construction in the area the supply is tight with mostly resales.

These windsurfer board fences are all the rage here on the north shore of Maui. You too could have one if you owned your own home in Paia or Haiku. Just save up all your old boards, and collect them from your friends and pretty soon you'll have enough for a fence. If you get enough, you can buy a bigger property and try for the world's record!

Mana Foods in Paia Maui is expanding and improving. Over the past year or more the little health food store in Paia has been undergoing a lot of changes. Last summer they added on to the south side of the building, and this summer they have been adding on to the north end. It's no wonder, as this is a very popular and busy grocery store on the north shore. They have been a good part of the community for over 30 years!

Fresh fish in Paia Maui Hawaii - Check out the fresh fish truck parked at the edge of Paia town the other day. Plenty of room to pull over and see what they have to offer.
Paia is a little beach town on the north shore of Maui and plenty of people here have boats so they can get in the water and catch some great tasting local fish:

The Butterfly Effect was started by a young woman on Maui, Tatiana Howard, to help inspire other women to get out there and have fun in the water, and to contribute to local charities in their communities. This annual event has grown into a well attended celebration here on Maui and other locations in the world.

This new addition to Paia's art scene is a fun painted wall mural in the public parking lot when you first enter town. Painted in the spring of 2016 with help from the kids at the Paia Youth and Cultural Center.
Paia Maui is a little beach town on the north shore, with lots of cool shops and restaurants. It's on the Hana Highway which is one of the major roads that circumnavigates the island, so it's really easy to find.

Just some random photos from the little beach town of Paia, on the north shore of Maui. There has been a lot of new construction of commercial buildings, and a general sprucing up of some of the older shops. Here's a little update.
This new building is in behind Charley's Restaurant, in the parking lot. Still not sure who the new tenants will be.
The F. Garcia Building is getting a whole new look and total make-over. In the meantime they have a very colorful facade.
