Sillyville... - 09/30/10 02:20 PM
I was walking around the Puyallup Fair Grounds this past Sunday towards “Sillyville”, the kids area. I love the cacophony of sound. The people talking and laughing, the loudspeakers blurting out invitations to try your luck at a game or two. The music from various areas of the fairgrounds all mashed up together and punctuated with screaming kids on rides as they’re spun, twirled, jerked, flipped and catapulted 100 feet into the air... A different sound emerges. Like a microwave popping popcorn, except the corn is made of steel or something and it's really loud. I followed the noise and

Yelpful in Seattle... - 09/22/10 02:37 PM
Yelpful in Seattle… When I talk to real estate professionals about social media, newcomers to it are concerned right out of the gate about the time it takes. “How much of this do I need to do and what’s my return on investment,” are two phrases I hear often. I honor those concerns. They are valid and worth questioning (over and over and over again). My reply: “Well actually, you’re going to have to do quite a lot of it. And, not only that you’re going to have to keep it up.” But ask yourself, “What are the consequences if I don’t

I'm Gonna Wave My Freak Flag High... - 09/19/10 04:26 PM
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my next door neighbor, Cheryl. She was 3 or 4 years ahead of me in school and even though I was a punk kid to her we shared a special connection; we both played the French horn. We also shared a huge curiosity for the changes starting to take place in pop music. I spent many wonderful hours in her home listening to vinyl records on her portable record player. Cheryl had a friend in England that would send her the latest UK releases. Because of her I was one of the first

Deer on Log with Mountain View... - 09/18/10 03:31 PM
I'm going to the Puyallup Fair tomorrow. I've been getting my camera ready, making sure I've got fresh batteries, and my lenses and filters are clean. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, but that's okay. It does that here in the Northwest. Fall is usually a beautiful time of year and the colors can be fantastic. This week I looked through fall pictures from the past. I checked my notes for locations and themes I didn't want to miss this season. The weather can turn fast around here. If the sun is out, the colors beautiful, and things look just right for

Is NOW our destiny? - 09/17/10 04:47 PM
Is NOW our destiny? One of my favorite movie lines of all time is from the 1985 Blockbuster Back to the Future... Remember the diner scene as George McFly walks up to Lorraine’s table. She asks him, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” (He’s bashful and awkward.) “Yes... Yes... I’m George, George McFly. I’m your density... I mean, your destiny.” I watched the movie a couple of weekends ago. I forgot how hilarious the 80'isms set in the 1950s were. Remember the setup: Doc invents time travel in 1985 and when Marty accidentally goes back to 1955 he interferes with

Web 3.0... Here we come. - 09/11/10 07:09 PM
Driving to work the other morning the tall buildings had their tops in the clouds. Ah, clouds, it got me to thinking about Google's purchase of Metaweb . Seattle... "Is your head in the cloud? Are your feet on the ground?" Metaweb invented Freebase, a massive semantic database using what it calls "entities" that improve search by distinguishing between terms that can mean several different things. In essence (and for the lack of a better term) Web 3.0 will turn the internet into a giant searchable database and our browsers into personal search assistants. Instead of making separate searches and sifting through

The Psychic Barber... - 09/09/10 09:50 PM
A couple of weeks ago I shared a special resource I found in Kent, Washington, Psychic Special $10. I know these are challenging times and I always try to help my friends out with the best resources I can find. I drive by this location a few times a month and I know that the normal price is $25. That's a savings of $15! I was in West Seattle this morning at a new boutique real estate company, Dwellings Seattle Real Estate. My associate Nick Castrow, from The Talon Group introduced me to broker/owner Meg McKennon, Annette Grupido, and Rob LeRoy,

Lucky on Broadway - 09/04/10 10:33 PM
I'm at Broadway East and Mercer Street on Capitol Hill. Sitting at the red light my eye catches a man walking his dog down the Ave. They cross the street in front of me and it's immediately obvious this dog is having an absolutely wonderful time. On leash, well behaved, its youthful energy can hardly contain itself as it dances around master and wants to greet everyone on the street with wagging tail joy. Myself, I'm in a brain drain. A busy day, I gave it my all, and 40 minutes left in my commute before I make it home and
