Sitemeter told me to do this - 12/30/09 11:03 PM
If anyone can enlighten me on sitemeter's instructions, I would appreciate it. I followed their Active Rain suggestions, but this is what I got - it just doesn't look right. I have seen the sitemeter icon on the sidebar, but never in the main part of a blog post. If you are using sitemeter, please let me know what you did for your blog. Thanks! (4 comments)
Actual Cost of Renting vs. Buying - 12/30/09 09:23 PM
Here is a simple explanation of why it makes sense for some folks to buy vs. rent. If you are going to stay in your home for more than a couple of years, then you may want to consider buying instead of helping pay for your landlord's house. If you are a First Time Homebuyer or Move Up Homebuyer, the Tax Credit of $8,000 and $6,500 may just make tilt the scales enough in favor of buying to get you off the fence and into your new home! Let us know if we can help you with one of the Fleming (6 comments)

Buyer Tips - Do I Need to Test for Radon? - 12/29/09 12:13 PM
We have buyers moving from many different areas of the Country. Sometimes they want to know, "Do I need to test for radon?" The answer to Florida radon testing is a personal Buyer decision. This post was inspired by a fellow blogger, David Monsour's post on radon. Consider the following: #1 The buyer's comfort level. Some buyers insist on testing for everything to rule out even the slimmest possibility of problems in their home, going beyond the building and WDO inspections to testing for radon, mold, pool leaks and more. #2 Your location in Florida. Most areas of Florida have the lowest (7 comments)
SHIFT into gear for 2010 - Don't be Left Behind! - 12/28/09 10:34 PM
In case you've been away from the Rain for a few days...or a week or more....let's face it, the last week or so has been pretty busy for most of us...a very compelling contest has been taking place. Bob wants to be sure we all survive next year. He's given us a great incentive to read Gary Keller's classic SHIFT. Why should you read SHIFT? There are many reasons - at least 12 of them to be exact. But there is one very IMPORTANT REASON why you, me, and anyone else in our industry should read this book. You don't want (6 comments)
New Years Resolution #1 - Read SHIFT - 12/28/09 10:09 PM
Better late to the party than not at all! I just read Bob's post on the SHIFT contest (yesterday) and wanted to add my contribution. SHIFT has been sitting on my bookshelf for some months while we have been busy with real estate. I learn so much here on Active Rain that there is little time to read books anymore. However, when you hear repeatedly about one book, you have to wonder why you haven't read it.So here goes: My first New Year's Resolution for 2010 is to read SHIFT. The market has definitely shifted. Our business has shifted. It (7 comments)

For the brave souls who didn't let a little rain and chill keep them away, the Parade of Trees that heralds in Christmas on Walnut Street was a delightful event. The 40th Annual Christmas on Walnut Street in Green Cove Springs FL was rescheduled from Dec. 4-5 to Dec. 11-12 due to rainy cold weather. Guess what? The rain and chilly weather came back! Friday night wasn't too bad. It was a little misty and chilly, but with a warm jacket, the evening was invigorating. Here are the trees. We the People... - 12/15/09 09:51 AM
Just look at what our forefathers said over 200 years ago. We couldn't say it better today if we tried. They knew the dread of taxation and oppression and what it reaped. Missy Caulk, thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. People, read, heed and get involved! Avoid Title Errors in Your Blog, It's Easy! - 12/11/09 10:56 PM
After reading Jon Zolsky's post last week about how annoying it is to see errors in Active Rain posts, especially in the TITLE where it is so prominent, I mentally checked through my posts and couldn't remember ever having a title error. After all, I was an English major and am a naturally excellent speller, so I didn't think it really applied to me. Fast forward a couple of days ago and I was hastily catching up on some Market Reports that I usually post on Sunday. About a half hour after posting, I got an email from Leilani Souza and (24 comments)

First it was a very bad cold - which I later figured out must have been the flu - then my son got the flu, and finally, my father-in-law wanted to give our son one of the puppies he bred. Reading and hearing today's news about our country, I cannot help but wonder, "What Would Thomas Jefferson Do?" What would he be thinking in this political climate and these challenging economic times? I'm certain he would not approve of our situation. Our visit to the grounds of his home, Monticello, in Charlottesville, Virginia, gave me a deeper insight into the man and what he stood for. One thing I am sure of, he would not be silent. Home Improvement Tips - Drywall Repair If you want to upgrade the ceramic towel racks in your bathroom, here's an easy way to repair the drywall to make way for the new brushed nickel or oil-rubbed bronze racks that will give your bath an updated look. After removing the ceramic towel racks, there will be two holes in the wall. Cut a wood block that is larger than the hole. Slip it in behind the drywall and secure it with screws, using your screw gun. Frank screws in a screw to hold the block while he places it and anchors it (15 comments)
