A sampling of San Diego architecture

If you leave a comment, Jim will visit your blog and leave a comment. One of the complaints that the experts have about San Diego -- and with the economy in a mess, I'm not sure I trust any experts anymore -- is that even though it's several hundred years old, it doesn't seem to have an architectural style that it can call its own. To me, that's the beauty of San Diego.

I have been to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and love the music culture there, but I did get bored with all the adobe buildings everywhere. Give me a little variety.

Following are some miscellaneous pictures of unique architecture that I've found on my previewing and showing journeys throughout San Diego County. I haven't a clue what most of them are; I just thought they were beautiful and interesting.

Hey, Rita.

You and that darn snow. It did snow in my little cone cup a couple of days ago when I had a snow cone. Does that count?

Some really great architecture.  S. California is kind of unique, Spainish, European, American and some Oriental.

Jim - you certainly do have a wide variety of styles in the San Diego area.  Where is the sculpture/gazebo that is the 2nd photo under the cat?  That's pretty interesting.

Hey, Jack.

I think the conglomeration of styles results from the fact that no one is from San Diego. Everyone is from somewhere else and moved here during their mid-life crises, bringing their hometown architectures with them.

Hey, Kent.

If I remember correctly, that's over at Shelter Island. As many times as I've been to Shelter Island, I had never seen that before, so either it's new or I'm more aware of things with my digital camera and ActiveRain membership -- LOL.

Hi Jim - Great photos.  That's one thing I like about Fair Oaks - this is really a mixed community.  I mean there are ancient and new homes, cottages that look like fairy tale houses, ranch homes, Mediterranean, tiny wood houses to mansions, all comfortably residing side-by-side.  We have very few housing tracts in Fair Oaks, so every street and every home on each street has unique qualities.  A couple of blocks from me, there is even a stone castle!  It does make preparing CMAs a little difficult, but I love living and working here.

We do have some nice architecture in my area but nothing that compares to your diversity.  The charm and personality truly can make showing homes and working with different style clients a pure joy!  Good luck and thanks for the great photos.

Hey, Susan.

Eventually I have to get over to the coast and take some pictures of our boat houses (not houseboats, boat houses) and our airplane houses. It is kind of fun to always be on the lookout for interesting stuff to put in our blogs.

Hey, Connie.

I'm still split as to whether or not the diversity is good. It is fun taking people on tours of San Diego, though.

Hey, Robert.

I think the Hotel Del is hurting just like everyone else in this economy. Their rates are down to $249 right now, and we're in mid-April.

Hey, Robert.

Someone famous once yelled several times every day for many years, "Come on down!" We look forward to meeting you. I'm sure if you ride the bike, you'll forever have a friend in Russel. He misses his since he sold it two years ago. First time he's been without a bike in several decades.

Hey, Tony.

I don't know if the variety of architecture comes from San Diego not having an identity like many cities or whether it's because of all the quaint neighborhoods that make up the city. It might also have something to do with the fact that we don't think there are too many native San Diegans. Everyone comes from somewhere else and brings that area's architecture with them.
