What's on your to-do list today? While it probably doesn't look much like mine (since you're likely a real estate agent and I'm a real estate writer), I bet you, like me, have a long list of items that, if were all marked off by 5pm, would make you feel gooooood.
Sage advice for us self-employed types is that we must have discipline. We must make our to-do list and ... get it done. Don't allow distractions, don't veer off-course, don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
Fair enough.
But... y'know what? One of the lessons I'm learning in my 40th year is that ... I wanna do what I wanna do -- more of the time.
So, this beautiful Monday morning, I'm looking at my to-do list.
~ Create June newsletter
~ Steam clean the carpets (I have 6 puppies visiting)
~ Learn how to work the Outlook contact manager
~ Fix the HTML errors at SWSUniversity - (thanks Karen Rice for pointing them out to me!)
~ Back up my computer
~ Put an ad on Petfinder (for the 6 puppies)
~ Interview programmers for SWSUniversity
~ Finalize the pricing course for SWSUniversity
Some of this is critical, some isn't. But y'know what I'm in the mood to do?
Start my next book.
Writing another book is on my long-term to-do list, but I wasn't planning on tackling it until fall or winter. However, the mood struck, so I'm taking advantage.
There are lot of things I should be doing RIGHT NOW; however, I believe in, as the Law of Attraction pundits call it "accepting divine inspiration." If I'm inspired to start a new book this morning, there's a darn good reason. So who am I to argue with the universe?
What do you "feel" like doing today, right now? Before you stick resolutely to your to-do list, ponder, just for a moment, whether your soul has a better idea...
