The Nashville Business Journal reported today that Nissan is investing $1 billion to build a lithium-ion battery plant and modify its existing facility to build a mass-market electric car.

Nissan is preparing to modify its Smyrna facility to allow for the production of the Leaf, what the company is billing as the first family-sized, affordable electric vehicle for the mass market. The plant is to build 150,000 electric cars a year and create 1,300 jobs for the region.

Congratulations to Nashville for this good news.  It's about time we heard about job creation!  Thanks for some positive news this morning.

Marcy - It's great that Nissan will be bringing in jobs, while GM is losing jobs. Obviously politics had something to do with GM, but they need to sell the Spring Hill plant to someone who could use it.

Mike - All the union operations seem to be leaving Tennessee. Maybe Obama doesn't work in the south.

Todd - OI know this sounds strange, but unemployment is not really that bad here. IT does exist, but not like the rust belt. I believe that manufacturing companies are leaving the states that are controlled by the unions, and coming to states that are not. Tennessee government is not controlled by unions or acorn, and it makes for a much more profitable environment for business.

With low taxes, an educated and motivated work force, and a good road and utility infrastructure, Tennessee is a good place to build products.
