I didn't know McAllen had a lighthouse. I was looking at the Nobska Lighthouse here in Falmouth as I rode the ferry back from Martha's Vineyard today. I was thinking it might be one of the most photographed ones in the US. (Ther's a pic of Nobska here http://localism.com/ma/falmouth )
Lee - A crisp clear lighthouse. . .Lighthouses are among my favorite photo subjects!
Heath, if you hover over the photo, you will see that this lighthouse is in Port Isabel, Texas.
Myrl, did you notice the photo was taken from about 30' up?
Debi, yes, just before sunset.
Lee - I noticed it wasn't taken at ground level, and suspected it was taken from either a hillside, or other building. . . Or perhaps a plane or helicoptor.
One of my first blogs here on ActiveRain was on Pole Aerial Photography. I have written several blogs on the subject. Probably the most comprehensive explains the evolution of my PAP system.
Lee - That's pretty fascinating stuff. About 10 years ago, I parked by Nikon F3, for my first digital camera. Recently, I've become fairly lazy carrying around a small Canon SX200IS in my purse, using a point and shoot method. I'm going to buy a SLR after the holidays (if not before). The dilemma for me, is I'm torn between the Nikon D90 or a similarly priced Canon EOS Rebel.
I'm torn between the brands, because prior to digital I was 100% a Nikon gal. But, my little digital Canon PowerShots have been so easy to use, small and portable. However, the limitations frustrate me. I also know going to a reasonably good SLR camera will commit me to a learning curve for awhile. That's why I'll likely purchase after the holidays.
As for that pole of your's - with tv - That's a whole different ballgame! I'm far too accustomed to traveling light:-)
If it's between a D90 and Rebel, I'm all over the D90. If you are a numbers freak like me, you might like this website which compares the sensors of all the digital SLR cameras. I had ordered the Rebel T1i because I understood the D5000 didn't have some features I found out later that it did have. I promptly sent the Rebel back. Now I have no experience with the Rebel, so I can't really make a direct comparison, but I'm really happy with my D5000. It has the same sensor as the D90.
Oh, and about the learning curve. You should have no problem with either camera you end up with. Just park the mode dial on auto and it will act like your point and shoot until you have time to explore the other features. You'll not regret going with a DSLR.
Ah, Port Isabel. I was wondering where the lighthouse of McAllen was. Very pretty, thanks for sharing.
