At the St. Augustine Florida alligator farm, they also had a few birds in captivity.  Some were lovely.  Some were noisy.  Some were.....well.....look here.........

Stork?

My daughter was reading about this poor bird and said it was a stork.  She said the thing hanging in the front is supposed to attract the opposite sex.  She said the reason storks have the reputation of delivering babies is because it looks like they are carrying something in the sack.

stork?

I believe she also said they get pecked on the head a lot.  I guess that has to do with "pecking order."  I just couldn't help but stare and stare at these poor birds.  They make we think of someone who has pulled their cloak around their shoulders and want to disappear.

Happy Thanksgiving, all of you on the Rain, and to this bird who will definitely not get eaten!!

That bird is "double ugly", Jason.   As my granddaughter used to say before it became passe:  gross.

Around this time of year, it could well be a turkey in disguise trying to get thru the holidays without being someone's dinner. But that is a seriously ugly bird.

Jason, thanks for viewing my bird.

Anita, be kind.  It's just a poor little stork....I think.

Gary, what a fun comment!  I loved it!

Andrea, happy thanksgiving to you too!

Ed, that could be possible.  Thanks for comment.

Zane, good lecture.  I couldn't have given a better one myself.  I hope no one from the alligator farm takes offense and tries to sue me.

That's a pretty cool bird, Barbara. Here is another bird that does that. It's a frigate bird. Puffs out its chest like a balloon:

Barbara - If nobody has ever shown him a mirror he is probably totally oblivious to how he looks.  He's certainly not easy on the eyes.

Dear Godmother,

Do not kill that bird. I can see where you are mixed up but that is not a turkey. I believe that is a duckbilled platapus and endangered. I think it would taste gamey too.

Mary, I wonder how many of them carry these bags around?

Elizabeth, this bird didn't appear to be huffing his chest out.  It appeared to have a long heavy bag-burden to bear.  I didn't see any mating going on either.

Carol, beauty if in the eye of the beholder.  I love his fluffy neck fuz and his cloak.

Patricia, he is strange!

Nutsy, you turkey!  (That means that you are lacking in style or grace or beauty or brains.  And I take back that I called you a turkey because you have all those things.)

Nutsy, we need to get you a tooter so that you don't misunderstand.  I did NOT eat that bird.  No one will eat that bird.  He is probably endangered as a species.  But little sweetie, I love you even if you do make mistakes.  Ms. Kate has already tried to be your tooter, hasn't she?

Nutsy, I'm so sorry.  I looked below your comment and that Mr. C had made fun of you again.  He really needs to have you visit him again and you could create a little havoc at his house to teach him a lesson.
