Now that just looks messy.  Wow is that a normal occurance or something unusual.

Birds of a feather sure do flock together.....whether on a power line for a tree ...or a boat.

Even when they're not looking for a handout.

Tim - This happens every afternoon when the party fishing boats come back to port with their catch.

Jim - That's true but these birds can be annoyingly persistent.

ToulaRosebrock,comHi John:

WOW...looks at all those pelicans!

Great photos!

We rarely get to see pelicans here in NJ....

Fernando - They can be pretty aggressive when they see food. The fish cleaner grabbed one by the beak and body and threw him up in the air to "show him who's boss". The pelican just spread it's wings and flew away unharmed.

Toula - Glad you stopped by. It's a new photo op every day at the Port.

John - I have NEVER seen so many pelicans in one spot!  There are nearly as many pelicans there, as there are sea lions at Pier 39 in San Francisco.

Congratulations, this post is being featured in the ActiveRain "Photos" group!

Apparently Miss Cape Canaveral really fills the bill for these birds. Nice series, John!

Tony and Darcy - Killer Pelcans? -- NAH!

Debi - They show up anytime they see a fish being cleaned. It's like they have radar.

Myrl - Thanks for the feature. We do have a LOT of pelicans here and they can be pesky. I've seen the Pier 39 sea lions on TV but never in person. That must be an awesome sight as well.

John - Cute quip! Thanks for dropping by.

John,

Looks like a variety show. The top two shots look like a quartet and the next one looks like a dance number. :)

Steve - That's an interesting perspective. They do "dance" around each other trying to get closer to the fish scraps. Then it becomes the Terminator meets Alien :-)

I thought that "Finding Nemo" was set in Australia, not Florida, John.  :)  I've never seen so many pelicans together either.

That's funny Heather. I don't think they'll be on the endangered species list any time soon. Actually, I have to keep a lock on the fish tank lid or they will wisk Nemo away :-)

We love Pelicans. At one point the Browns were almost gone here in Texas. There just isn't another bird like them.

Trey - Maybe all those Texas birds flew to Florida for the pickins' :-) I'll send some back your way.

John, I've never seen that many pelicans in one place...I have been on both coasts and in the gulf...very cool, but I can imagine as you say that they can be quite pesky.
