Aaah the life of a home inspector, it's never dull and often very interesting. The creativity, the innovativeness of people never will cease to fill me with wonder.
Like the other day I came around the corner of the house I was inspecting and wondered;
What in the world is that!
The blue tarp rather meticulously affixed to the bottom of the structure caught my eye first. Then I noticed the shaggy looking shingles. As my eye wander up the this strange vertical edifice it dawned on me what I was seeing,
By golly it's a chimney! And not a very good example of one at that.
To say this looks homemade would be to understate the obvious. This stack of assorted lumber haphazardly assembled screams amateur.
This chimney was probably assembled on a weekend with an Uncle and a couple of cousins helping. There would have been a barbecue and LOTS of beer before, during and after the project was undertaken.
Did I forget to mention the fireplace that this chimney was oh so methodically assembled to serve?
I actually was not to certain about the exact intended function of the "fireplace".
You can see how it has been decorated in a traditional hardware store bucket motif. I think the fan really makes it pop!
This "fireplace" must've been some new type of fancy home feature, the water fall fireplace. Can't build a fire in there, but the sound of dripping water must be oh so relaxing after a long day of work.
Aaah yes the life of a home inspector.
