Peninsula Living: San Carlos - a blue Moon on New Year's Eve
The last day of 2009 offers a special treat for us. Not only is it the eve of a new year, and a new decade, there is a full moon tonight, visible in San Carlos and much of the mid-Peninsula, peeking from behind the clouds. Not only that, it's a blue moon.
When a month is graced with two full moons, the second one is called a blue moon. It happens rarely (the last one was in May 2007), hence the expression, "once in a blue moon."
This picture was shot from the back yard at my San Carlos home, in the calm of the evening before the revelers warm up to welcome in 2010.
Wishing you all a joyous, healthy, prosperous new year!
