The Trails at Newcastle-a report on the latest proposed built green community

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend an informational presentation on The Trails at Newcastle, a brand new proposed built-green community in Newcastle, WA. Thanks to Brenda Nunes for inviting me. It was very interesting.

The Trails at Newcastle is the newest proposed built-green community and the first of it's kind on the eastside here in the Seattle area. Both of the builders, Ben and Burt, talked passionately about their vision. The key will be to secure the $14 million needed to fund the development. Located in Newcastle, WA. (just minutes from Bellevue), The Trails at Newcastle is a 32 unit detached unit development laid out  on over 6 acres. The development is within minutes of hiking trails on Cougar Mountain and has preserved acres of wetlands. I was able to take the tour before looking at the plans and the site is pristine; especially for something that is close to civilization. For Ben, the developer, it's been a vision for 7 years now when they first acquired the property.

The next phase is to get commitments from 75% of the buyers. Then they can proceed. They would like to break ground on all or part of the development this Summer 2010. Currently The Trails at Newcastle does have commitments as well as several other interested parties. Home sizes are between 1,300-2,100 square feet and pricing from roughly $450,000-$700,000. Most of the interested parties there at the meeting yesterday were middle-aged looking to either downsize or follow their dream of contributing more toward our environment.

I plan on attending future meetings of The Trails at Newcastle. I was impressed by the passion of the group and believe they will build a beautiful development. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Wow! It is great to hear of people, both developers and homeowners so dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment in such a great sounding place. Best of success to all.

Paul,

Good to see that more builders are passionate about green building. Eventually these baby steps will lead into a major shift in home building.
